A brand new High Speed Train set arrives at Aberdeen during April 1978. This picture also shows Aberdeen South Signal Box, built in 1947 by British Railways to replace a similar box, Denburn South Junction Signal Box (built as part of the 1915 reconstruction of Aberdeen Joint Station).
The "Chicken Shed" for servicing the new high speed trains can be seen under construction behind the signal box. Aberdeen South Box would survive until 1981 when the box was closed and replaced during the resignalling of the Aberdeen area with colour-light signals.
