Class A4 Steam Loco 60009 "Union of South Africa" is seen here at Ferryhill during an open day. The loco behind it is a Class 55 "Deltic", probably D9000 "Royal Scots Grey". Note the REALLY old carriages in the adjacent siding - some wooden bodied stock was retained and converted into departmental rolling stock when withdrawn - presumably it was easier to convert these carriages than to alter steel-bodied ones - and cheaper than to custom build such carriages.
