The north end of Aberdeen Joint Station was controlled from Aberdeen North Signal Box, built by the Great North of Scotland Railway. This diagram shows the layout from the decommisioning of the North Bay Platforms in around 1966, when the track through platform 7 was turned into a siding/headshunt, and platforms 8 & 9 were still in regular use. During the resignalling of Aberdeen Joint Station in 1981 the tracks through platform 6 & 7 were relaid as through lines, and platforms 8 & 9 were closed, the tracks being used to accomodate a long headshunt to allow Intercity High Speed Trains to reverse into the fuelling point.
The track circuits together with the junction at Kittybrewster for the Waterloo Branch can clearly be seen.
