Mills of Drum Station opened in 1853 and was the first station on the Deeside Line to be closed in 1863. The closure of Mills
of Drum resulted in the private platform at Crathes Castle being rebuilt as a public station (Crathes Castle having been
used since 1853 by the Laird of Crathes).
Today it is unclear why Mills of Drum Station was closed. Perhaps the station was no longer in a suitable position to serve
the community. The nearby Mill (old maps refer to a Corn Mill located at the Mills of Drum) may have closed. Over 100 years
after closure it is unsurprising that no trace remains of Mills of Drum Station, though the trackbed can just about be made out
at the likely location of the station.
