West Cults was opened in 1894 for the introduction of Suburban Services to Culter. In 1884 until 1892 West Cults was also the terminus of the double track from Ferryhill Junction, but there was no station provided at this time. West Cults closed in 1937 with the withdrawal of the suburban services. Today the station building at West Cults is long gone, but the two platforms survive intact. A bridge which formerly carried the railway over a small road at the eastern end of the station has been removed.
