Cada vez son mas los programas
gratuitos relacionados con el ajedrez.
La siguiente es solo una muy pequeña muestra de los mismos.
Bases de datos, programas para jugar, motores para acoplar a bases
de datos, programas para quienes juegan por email, salvadores de pantalla,
programas para usar en Internet, etc, etc.
Excelente base de datos para Windows, es la version gratuita del famoso
Chess Base. Puede configurarse en diferentes idiomas.
Permite manejar tanto PGN como el moderno formato de ChessBase;
y se le pueden acoplar motores de juego como el Fritz, Crafty, y otros,
para evaluar las partidas que uno ve o analiza.
Tambien premite crear y guardar diagramas de manera facil.
Su unica limitacion es que las bases que cree no podran tener mas
de 8000 partidas cada una, lo cual no es muy importante tomando en cuenta
el poderosisimo programa totalmente gratuito que es ChessBase Light.
Programa para DOS, es la version gratuita del famoso Rebel, y si bien
es mas debil que la version comercial, juega muy bien.
Ademas, tambien es una poderosa base de datos que trabajo con formato
propio y con formato PGN.

Juega muy bien, y tiene libros de apertura, y tablebase de finales.
Programa para Windows, de Jon Dart. Tambien hay una version de
pruena para Linux.
Hay disponibles colecciones de partidas de este programa para evaluar
bien su fuerza.
Programa que corre sobre diferentes sistemas operativos, incluidos
Windows, DOS, y Linux.
Programa para Windows, de Frank Schneider.
Permite el use de tablebases de finales, y permite editar la funciones
de evaluacion; tambien permite utilizar el sistema Fischer de juego.
Programa para Windows, de Timm Mann, que nacio como un proyecto cientifico.
Programa para Windows, de Guillermo Gajate.
Programa pensado para quienes juegan por email, con buen manejo
de formato PGN, interface con Internet, y la posibilidad de crear y guardar
diagramas en formato JPG.
Salvadores de pantalla para Windows con motivos ajedrecisticos. De
Alan Cowderoy.
