Curiosidades del Ajedrez
En el Torneo internacional de Gotemburgo, Suecia, celebrado en 1955
ocurrió una situación rarísima, conocida desde entonces
como la tragedia argentina.
En dicho evento los Grandes Maestros soviéticos Boris Spasski,
Paul Keres y Efim Geller jugaban con piezas blancas contra los Grandes
Maestros argentinos Herman Pilnik, Miguel Najdorf y Oscar Panno,
respectivamente, y sucedió que en las tres partidas se jugó
la misma Defensa y la misma variante de forma idéntica hasta la
jugada 12, tal como se muestra a continuación:

1.e4 c5 2.Cf3 d6 3.d4 cd 4.Cd4 Cf6 5.Cc3
a6 6.Ag5 e6 7.f4 Ae7 8.Df3 h6 9.Ah4 g5 10.fg

En esta posición, estudiada
de antemano por los maestros argentinos, Geller realizó el interesante
sacrificio del Caballo en e6:
11.Ce6, y después de 11...fe 12.Dh5+ Rf8,
se puso a pensar.
Spasski y Keres aún no habían hecho su jugada 11,
por lo que sus contrarios seguían atentamente la partida Geller
- Panno, acerca de la cual comentaban en voz baja. |
En ese momento el GM Miguel Najdorf le susurró al oído
a Geller que tenía perdida la partida ya que la ”hemos analizado
profundamente antes de la ronda”.
Sin embargo la jugada 14 de Geller constituyó una sorpresa para
los destacados maestros argentinos. Después de

Esta posición ellos no la habían previsto; estaban convencidos
que después de la jugada 13 las blancas jugarían 14.O-O y
las negras tendrían defensa ante el ataque blanco con: 14.O-O+ Rg8!
15.Ad3 hg!. Ahora, en cambio, después de 14...Rg8 sigue 15.Ae5
y 16.Dg6+, ganando. |
Ya en este momento, Spasski y Keres habían jugado igual que Geller,
por lo que Najdorf y Pilnik, que eran sus rivales, al ver lo peligrosa
que resultaba la posición de Panno, decidieron jugar 13...Rg7 en
lugar de 13...Ce5, jugada que tampoco los salvó de la derrota.
Al finalizar la jornada los soviéticos habían derrotado
a los argentinos, que no habian estudiado correctamente la variante utilizada,
y con la cual pensaban sorprender a sus fuertes rivales.
La continuación de la partida Geller - Panno fue como sigue:

le dedica un capitulo a la mencionada anecdota, y se menciona, entre otras
cosas, la siguiente variante descubierta luego por Bobby Fischer:
