Emo bands may seem to be a dime a dozen these days, but the bands that can master this divine sound are a special treat. Sky's the Limit is one such band. Honest lyrics expressing faith, sweet sounding melodic vocals, and a band that understands swells, speed, emotion, and resolution -- all in the context of a good pop song. HM Magazine

Keep your eyes to the skies… and don’t look back down, because this band from Virginia Beach, VA, has put together a tight, melodic emo sound that will set your spirits soaring. Both short-length releases by Sky’s The Limit exhibit their smooth blend of beautiful harmonies with a music style that fits snuggly into the genre commonly known as “emo” or “melodic rock”. The band seems to have themselves rooted into the ideals of good melodies. So much so that they have a tendency to include stretches of instrumentations in their songs. (In fact, the first track on “On the Move…” is a full instrumental.) Guitars crash in planned harmony with the bass lines, and drumbeats lead the tunes into infectious rhythms. Taking the front is Dave Giminez. With his clear vocals, his voice sings through the tracks the way one might dance into a playground – exuberant, confident… and then passionately poignant. One moment he’s arriving at the park; he’s shouting of the jets that have just landed… but a little later his tone changes - his lyrics tell a story of being “overwhelmed, ‘cuz it’s just like falling again”. Then in the very next moment, he’s yelling for a change, wailing of a skyline drive... And with a casual ease, the music matches his temperaments.  Sky’s The Limit’s Christian themes are subtle yet driving in both albums. “Neverending, Like The Sky” hears a sincere plea with Dave calling out, “So I reach out to find myself a savior ‘cuz I need you more than ever / So please don’t let me go / Your love is neverending, like the sky – so vast and wide / So I reach out to the background / You pick me up and say keep moving / You’re still there to catch me when I fall / And I fall so hard.”  Dave’s lyrics are mature and introspective, and together with his arranged sound, thirteen amazing tracks result. “Nostalgia” would have to be my favorite of the two releases. Although the lyrics depict the wistful longing for something passed, the beat is entirely refreshing. There is a certain sense of renewed hope that follows the catchy bridge, “Don’t want to give up / I cannot give in / I must maintain my faithfulness / I’ve seen the darkness / And it’s consuming… I must maintain my faithfulness.” Truly inspirational, these releases show that the band has the potential to go far - maybe as far as proving that the sky really isn’t the limit. Sky's the Limit - (MP3 Review)  Ethereal emo from Virginia Beach (must be all those nice summer days watching the Atlantic roll in and out). If you're digging "Clarity" from Jimmy Eat World and the mellower tracks from ErrorType:11 and Diffuser, then these guys are your soundtrack forhanging with someone you just took out to dinner, if you know what I mean (wink, wink, nod, nod)...

I know that there are more reviews out there but I've forgotten where they are. So if you know of others please email me and let me know so I can add them to this page. Thanks.
