Four years ago, Barret lived in a town called Corel. When mako energy was first found there the Shinra immediately started building a reactor to harness this new-found energy. Barret, thinking this would help the town, agreed. Sometime along the way, the reactor exploded. With no aid from the Shinra to help, the town was abandoned. During the accident, Barret's right hand was severely injured by a gunshot. Replacing the hand with a gun, Barret blamed himself for the explosion, and has carried the guilt for years. All he has left is his child, Marin. His wife was also killed during the accident. He now leads the Avalanche against the Shinra's greed for mako energy. |
