Panel 1: JEZ (a small punk girl, 16 yrs old, purple hair done up in a braid) kneels within the steel frame of a large pyramid. Around the entire pyramid construction, on the floor, is a circle of flour. Jez's eyes are tightly closed and she holds her hands out to the side, palms up. In one hand sits a large natural quartz crystal, in the other is a flat piece of copper with a faint etching of a strange symbol upon it. She wears a purple robe upon which more of these strange symbols are sewn onto the sleeves. She wears no shoes. The room behind her is small and in bad need of a paint job. There are no windows. There is a mock fireplace to the rear, where a gas log may have once sat, but it's a bare space now. The electrical outlet, lacking a cover, is visable to the rear of the fireplace. On the mantel, a number of candles are lit. This provides the only light in the room. JEZ speaks to someone we can't see yet.
Panel 2: We see the person she's speaking to. It's Hermes Trismegistus (An Ancient Greek, 40's, white hair, full beard, friendly, gnomic features, and small round glasses perched on his nose). He wears a purple robe that matches the one Jez wears and he is also barefoot. He sits on a bench against the wall directly in front of Jez. His hands are relaxed on his lap and he meditates, eyes closed.
Panel 3: JEZ wrinkles her nose.
Panel 4: Hermes opens one eye and looks at her disapprovingly. Jez smirks (her eyes are still closed).

Panel 1: Jez resumes her concentration.
Panel 2: There is a vague double image of Jez. A ghostly form is separating from her.
Panel 3: JEZ is suddenly standing in blackness. She looks around. The room is gone, the steel pyramid is gone, Hermes is gone. She is confused, but not frightened.
Panel 4: She cups her hands around her mouth and shouts.
Panel 5: She listens closely.
Panel 6: She looks around. She isn't impressed.

Panel 1: JEZ stands upon a high promontory, overlooking a beautiful valley. It's like one of those Chinese paintings with mountains, streams, and a red Pagoda nestled in a beautiful garden far below. Jez is taken aback.
Panel 2: JEZ looks behind her. There is a small path that leads down from the promontory.
Panel 3: Jez begins to take the narrow path down the mountain.
Panel 4: Jez looses her footing on the narrow slope.

Panel 1: JEZ falls, screaming.
Panel 2: Suddenly JEZ stops in mid air. She floats and her expression shows her pleasant surprise.
Panel 3: JEZ floats gently down to stand in the lovely Chinese garden.
Panel 4: Jez is standing in front of the Red Pagoda. Now it towers above her. Two guards stand to either side of the main door. They wear white robes.
Panel 5: Jez skips lightly up the Pagoda steps. She wears a mischievous expression.

Panel 1: Jez is on the top step. The guards don't look at her.
Panel 2: Jez gets right into one guards face and is very insolent. He doesn't bat an eye.
Panel 3: Jez walks up to the door and considers it.
Panel 4: Jez closes her eyes tight, holds her breath and takes the plunge through the door.
Panel 5: Jez appears on the other side of the door.

Panel 1: Jez opens her eyes again to see a very luxurious entrance. Moldings in gold, marble floor, ornate oriental carvings. Giant dragon murals cover the walls.
Panel 2: Jez wanders into a long hallway. At the end is a heavy, ornately carved black door.
Panel 3: Jez appears on the other side of the black door and sees a very disturbing scene. Upon a great golden throne sits a huge black man. He looks like a Voodoo Priest. His hair is in dread locks and he wears a very ornamental costume. It's a black robe and it's embroidered with red and gold threads throughout. It has a fur collar with colorful feathers (like birds of paradise feathers) attached to that. He wears leather sandals with colorful beads and gold. On his head is a headdress made of feather and bone, like a crown, and he's adorned heavily with gold jewelry, jeweled skulls, and bones. On either side of him are twin albino (black) women, both with albino boa constrictors wrapped around them. The women are naked. All three gorge themselves upon a bloody feast of raw meat that is laid before them. Blood drips down their arms and faces. They do not look like people one would want to mess with.
Panel 4: The three look up at Jez. It's not a look of welcome.
Page 7 (6 panels)
Panel 1,2,3: The women stand up and as they do so, a hundred varieties of snakes swim toward them, covering them from head to toe with a squirming and hissing, live and venomous costume. The black man stands and angrily points at Jez. His face twists up freakishly.
Panel 4: JEZ falls backward through the door in her haste to be away. She is terrified.
Panel 5: On the other side of the door, she has fallen to the ground. We can't see her feet.
Panel 6: Jez scrambles back on the floor like a crab, panic stricken.
Page 8 (5 panels)
Panel 1: Jez is back in her body, back in the little room with Hermes. Her whole body is shaken by her abrupt return and the items in her hands have fallen on the floor. She is wide eyed and in shock. Hermes bends over her.
Panel 2: Hermes leads Jez away from the pyramid. There is one door and another doorway that's covered with a curtain. Jez is a little shaky.
Panel 3: Jez is behind the curtain. It's a changing room. A number of purple robes just like hers hang on hooks. Jez starts putting on her own clothes (military green, cut off shorts, a black tank top, a narrow dog collar, and heavy doc martin boots). She rolls her eyes and grimaces. She talks to Hermes who's on the other side of the curtain.
Panel 4: Jez opens the curtain and stands in the doorway of the change room. She smiles now, like she's already forgotten the whole thing. Hermes looks concerned.
Panel 5: Jez walks down the sidewalk in a run down neighborhood. She carries a knapsack over one shoulder and she wears an aggressive expression (gritting her teeth). It's evening and the sun is going down, creating long shadows. Perhaps we see a ghostly figure of the Voodoo guy floating threateningly over her head.

Jessica (Jesse) Gutcher, afflicted with amnesia as our story begins, suddenly finds herself in an unfamiliar life. A suburban utopia - complete with Ma, Pa, fluffy little dog, and personal computer. Jesse feels strange, detached from these people and things - like she floats in a faraway dream.
When Jesse's "new" family attends church, she meets Todd Hargrove. The two teens continue a close friendship. Hanging with Todd makes Jesse feel a modicum of normalcy again, and by the end of the summer, Jesse accepts her quiet life of Christian values.
But Jesse's life isn't quiet for long. When Todd and Jesse unexpectedly find themselves in jail, a Punk named Johnny Klepto calls her JEZ and insists she used to be Goth. Shortly, Todd and Jesse are following Johnny to a boarded up hotel block to meet a group of unusual characters that call themselves The Alchemists.
This is the Premiere Issue of the continuing series, JEZ. It's "My So Called Life" meets "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" for comics. Even while flummoxed by the pressures of growing up in the 90's, Jesse and Todd are introduced to the world of Magick, develop strange and frightening powers, and with guidance from The Alchemists, battle terrifying forces of evil. They have a great deal to learn, but can they unlock the secrets within themselves before the ultimate evil comes to claim their world?
