Amazon.com One of the first ".com" companies selling merchandise through the internet exclusively. Sort of phenomenal in that it made no profit for a long time in internet terms, but kept right on going. Some proof that cash flow and good backers can be more important than money in the bank.
AMP alt.binaries.amp A rather amazing newsgroup, that hosts an incredible variety of graphic images. NOT primarily porn, though there is a large number of playboy, etc. scans. Many active and lurker devotees. (Several months later... Yep, an absolutely amazing site. This place has thousand of interesting pics a day.)
Amp Short version of the word ampere, an electrical measure.
Anchor A method of holding something in place, usually a heavy shaped piece of metal dropped in the water to hold a boat in place. Also the chief or lead news-caster.
Anderson, Gillian Actress. Probably most popular for playing Agent Scully in the TV Series X-Files. Oddly common subject of fake nude pictures.

Artificial Intelligence A concept that describes the creation of a device or devices that will emulate the ability of the human brain to absorb, and more importantly, interpret data, in context. 'In context' is probably the most important part of that statement.
Astronomy The study of everything that is not on or of the earth. (Could include bits of rock that fall from the sky.) A very hopeful pseudo-science since the vast majority of the subject matter is so far away that no one now living will probably ever directly see it. These people make assumptions about stuff far away based on observations made in our close astronomical neighborhood. The nearest celestial body outside our local solar system sent it's LIGHT our way four years ago. Therefore ALL astronomical observations are historical in nature.
Athletics A method of organized competition probably developed so that people wouldn't have to kill each other to resolve differences. Once they got started, people probably found out it was fun so formalized the competitions and so we got baseball and soccer.
Autism A probably genetic condition in which a person is dis-associated from the reality around them.
