Barlowe, Wayne Douglas   Main editor of two books about art from literature, 'Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials/Great Aliens from Science Fiction Literature' sample and 'Barlowe's Guide to Fantasy: Creatures Great and Small from the Best Fantasy and Horror sample.

Bitmap  A method to store visual images in a computer data file.  Via "mapping" or having some kind of pointer to every "bit" or pixel in an image.

Boils   A nasty infection you can get on your skin.  Painful, pus-y and hard to get rid of.

Broccoli  A vegetable that people usually hate as a kid, and tolerate or love as an adult.  Good either raw with dip, or cooked. 

Buffy the Vampire Slayer   TV Show.  Premise is a "slayer" is born every generation to fight vampires and demons.  Buffy is the current slayer.

Buns   Something to eat or something to stare at.

Bureaucracy   The hired i.e. non-elected part of the government.  These people interpret and enforce the rules created by the elected part of the government.  In theory, they do an "exact" implementation based on the letter and spirit of decisions made by the elected government.  In practice, they do pretty much what they want.  A good example is the Internal Revenue Service.  There are thousands of tax laws.  The IRS seems to selectively enforce them.
