Q: What is Client Write-Up ? | A: Client WriteUp is a multi-company bookkeeping package especially designed for accountants. It includes all the features of a General Ledger plus special features designed to aid accountants to input and print entries and reports that are normally not included in a general ledger package such as detailed payroll information. It includes the ability to print W-2s and 1099s as well as financial statements and supporting reports such as the journal listing, detailed ledger, and trial balance. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Q: Can I record payroll entries directly on the transactions screen without having to go to another journal? | A: Yes. use /employee# in the description field. You can set the journal to anything you want. I suggest something like PYRL just to keep the payroll entries separate. In the demo client, you will see the payroll entries that are already there if you print out the journal. All start with the slash character /. Payee entries use the period + the payee "number" (.payee#). You can also select an employee (or payee) from the employee/payee pop-up windows. This automatically inserts the slash or period character. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Q: Can I change the financial statement headings ? | A: Yes. Default headings are located in the configuration file maintenance. The actual text for the footnotes is located there also. Addtionally, the statment headings actually used are located in the Client Maintenance for each client. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Q: Where can i get the demo ? | A: Follow the links and instructions here | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Q: Can I use the keyboard to access options in the windows version menu ? |
A: Yes. You can enter a 2 digit code for the options (version 2.8 and above) on the main menu or
the standard dropdown windows menu.
|
Q: Can I create a new client by copying an existing client?
|
A: Yes, in the full version. When creating a new client, it will ask you if you want to copy the chart of accounts from another client. then it's a simple matter to change some description for instance a bank account from 1st National to Fidelity (example).
|
Q: Can I add and delete accounts in the general ledger easily.
|
A: Yes.
| From the Chart of Accounts File Maintenance, Type in an account number (up to 6 characters), Click OK. Enter the new information (if adding) and select Save from the Edit popup or the Save button (at the bottom). Select Delete to delete an existing account. Most of the windows file maintenance options work this way unless there is only one page (such as the client file). MS-DOS version->In the Chart of accounts file maintenance, select A to add accounts, C to change, D to Delete (see top line of the file maintenance screen).
Q: Do you send out update disks yearly for such things as printing | W-2s?
A: At the present time there is no yearly update for W-2s. this is because
if you use preprinted forms you can easily change the print position of
the fields in MSDos Version option 78 (79 for 1099s) or Win version
File>Change W2/1099 Col/Row.
The facsimile W-2s automatically change the date for the year. If there
is a major revision of W-2s we will make an update available.
|
Q: Is the program Y2K compliant?
|
A: Yes. Our software prints the dates before and after the year 2000 correctly.
|
Q: If you record one amount for FICA and Withholding, does the program split it to the proper amount for FICA and withholding automatically?
|
A: Yes. One entry is normally made for FICA/Medicare and one entry for
Federal withholding. You can, however, make a total entry for both in the
FICA posting line, select Adjust Federal Withholding, and it will correctly
post both entries (enter 0 in Federal withholding). TIP: See item 46 in
Appendix B of the manual for another TIP on entering FICA and Federal withholding.
|
Q: Does the program automatically accrue payroll taxes?
|
A: Yes. Go to the Employee maintenance and call up an existing employee.
Once the employee record is displayed, select Amounts from the edit drop-down menu to see Current/Quarter-to-date/Year-to-date totals ( Gross pay, FICA, withholding etc)
|
Q: How does the consolidating companies | feature work?
A: Set up a consolidating company Chart of accounts, define the client/company id's
that are included (one time). Select process, and the companies are combined into
the consolidating company. You can then make adjusting entries where necessary and
print the financial statements for the consolidated company. The consolidating company ID
MUST start with C$.
|
Q: I have several clients that have several entries that occur each month. Is there a way to
post these without retyping them each period ?
|
A: Yes. Recurring Journal entries (as well as Reversing Journal entries) are supported.
Use RECJ as the journal code for Recurring Journal Entries and these entries will be
reposted to the new period automatically when you close the current period.
Use REVJ for Reversing Journal Entries and the entries in this journal will be
reposted with the opposite sign (debits to credits, credits to debits) when the
current period is closed.
|
Q: Can I reprint prior periods once the period has been closed ?
|
A: Yes. Simply change the date in option 25 ( print financial statements) to a
valid period ending date within the prior 12 months.
|
Q: Can I preview reports before printing them ?
|
A: Yes. In the Win version there is a preview function for all reports when
using "P" for the print device (i.e.printer). In the Dos version, most
reports can be printed to the screen to "preview" the report.
|
Q: Can I specify a fiscal year other than the calendar year.
|
A: Yes. This is done in the client file maintenance option. Once you have closed a month, however,
you should not change this. You may also specify a 12 or 13 period year. A 13 period
year has 12 periods of 28 days and one period of 29 or 30 days (depending on
whether it is a leap year).
|
Q: Is there an easy way to post Salaried employees ?
|
A: Yes. In the employee file, you can set up the Gross Pay, Fed withholding, and State withholding
for salaried employees. You can then post all the entries without typing them in.
|
Q: What about comments in the journal ? Is there a way to put comments in the journal ?
|
A: Yes. For comments of up to 25 characters, use the asterisk * as the account number.
For comments longer than 25 characters, the explanation/description field will allow you
to type more than 25 characters. Once you press < Enter > the program will automatically
make comment entries by putting the asterisk in the account number field.
|
Q: Can I get changes made to some of the reports and how much will it cost ?
|
A: Yes. Minor changes to the reports can be done usually at little or no cost. Something you won't
find with other software companies. If you have a good suggestion for an addition or modification
we may incorporate it into the package permanently.
|
Q: Can you transfer the files from the package I am using now ?
|
A: Yes, usually. We can't make any guarantees but we have done this for a number of CPAs.
We do charge for this service. As the number of clients' files goes up the charge
per client goes down. It usually ranges from 50 cents to $5 per client.
|
Q: Can I use my mouse with your program ?
|
A: Yes. The Menu, Journal Posting, File Maintenance, and most Reports have mouse support (DOS version).
In the Dos version it is best to run it in a DOS window for best mouse support.
In the windows version, of course, the mouse is used extensively.
|
Q: How do I change journals ?
|
A: Simply click the journal field and change it to any 1-4 characters you wish (Win version).
| In the Dos version, from the Date field in journal posting, simply press the Up Arrow to go back to the Journal field. The journal is user defined. Also see the journal Descriptions that enhance the journal printout.
Q: Can I post adjustments to prior periods ?
|
A: Yes. Use the Journal Code PADJ. Enter your adjustments to prior periods in this journal.
When the period is closed (during the close), the entries in this journal will be posted
to the correct period(s). Be sure you have balanced entries by date. Once the month is
closed you may reprint prior periods (including the one just closed) for the adjusted
statements.
|
Q: The Journal Posting shows the previous 12 entries posted. Can I see the other entries without printing a journal ?
|
A: Yes. In the change mode (click Edit or Alt+E, CTL+C, or F7) you can use the page up/down keys to view previous entries (from the record number field).
|
Q: Does your system do Budget comparative statements ?
|
A: Yes. You can define the budget amounts in the Chart of Accounts maintenance, then
choose "2" for the type of income statement in option 25.
|

|
A: The price is $290.50 (plus 4.50 S&H 295.00 total). Thats over 50% off the retail price of 595.00.
