Pearl E. White & The Tooth Fairy Castle

Hi! My name is Pearl E. White, and this is my home. Did you know it’s a castle? And guess what? It even has a dungeon too, but don’t worry – the only thing that we keep down there are bad teeth. You know like cavities and stuff. So, as long as you brush every day, not even your teeth will ever see that old place. 

Have you ever been in a castle before? I love this one partly because I live here and partly because of its magical secrets. Do you know what my home is called? It’s the Tooth Fairy Castle! Can you guess why? Now, don’t look worried, I'll tell you. It’s because the Tooth Fairies live here. Oops! I am not supposed to tell people that, but I know you will keep our secret.

This old castle has been here for a very long time. Long before I was born. My mom was born here, along with her mother before her too, that would be my grandmother, and lots more before that. They have shared all the stories of long ago with me. So, I know all about this wonderful place. Would like to learn about the Tooth Fairy Castle?

I see you nodding your head. Ok, I'll tell you the story on how Tooth Fairy Castle came to be. It began hundreds of years ago, and went something like this….

Pearl, my great great great great great grandmother, who I am named after, was eating her sweet bread and her tooth began to hurt. When the pain got worse, she cried.

Her mother picked her up, sat her on her lap and said, “Little Pearl, what's wrong, child?”

“My tooth, it really hurts, Momma.”

Pearl’s mother tried to make her feel better, but couldn’t stop Pearl’s tooth from hurting. Worried for her daughter, she made a wish asking for help from the magical spirits she knew visited the castle from time to time. 

Soon, Pearl drifted off to sleep, but her mother didn’t, she was too worried about her daughter. In the wee hours of the night, she saw a tiny spark of light appear. It was beautiful, with countless colors within the tiny flickering spark. She watched it flying around the room and then it stopped in mid air over Pearl!

Pearl’s mother whispered to the tiny light, “Oh, please, dear spirit, tell me that you have come to help my child. Pearl is a good girl.”

The light glowed brighter until it burst into a bright flash. As it dimmed, a Fairy appeared in its place. The Fairy was beautiful and had a high soft voice when she talked. “Yes, I came to help, but I am not a spirit, I am a Tooth Fairy. I am sorry it took so long for us to come. My family and I have no home, so we must travel very far without rest. The reason Pearl’s tooth hurts is she hasn’t been brushing, and now the tooth is sick. I can make it better, but you must have her brush with this.”

Peal’s Momma agreed as the fairy handed a small piece of wood with thistles on it. Do you know what it was? This was the very first TOOTH BRUSH! 

Happy that the little girl would brush her teeth, the Tooth Fairy touched Pearl’s face. “She will not hurt anymore from her tooth. Just understand that I cannot do this again. She must learn to use the brush I gave you. I will return each time Pearl looses a baby tooth, just have her leave it under her pillow and I will know. I use the baby teeth to make my magic so I can help other children.”

Well, Pearl’s momma was so happy that her daughter wouldn’t hurt anymore from the poor, sick tooth that she made the Fairy an offer. “Tooth Fairy, you say you have no home? Well, you shall. This castle has been the home of my family almost since the beginning of time, now it is yours to share with us from now and forever. You helped my little Pearl and this would truly please me. Would you accept this as your home, for yourself and all the other Tooth Fairies?”

The Tooth Fairy thought about it and then smiled a sparkling, white smile. “Thank you, Dear Woman, yes! This will be wonderful. Now, all of my sister and brother Fairies will be pleased. However, there is one thing we must agree on, payment for living here.”

Pearl’s momma shook her head. “I do not want any kind of payment. You helped my daughter, and that is all I could ask for.” 

The fairy thought about it, she thought real hard, and then she smiled. “I have an idea. Since you will not take payment, we will pay for each baby tooth we collect from every child that leaves one under their pillow for us. And if the teeth are healthy and white, we will pay extra! This will help the children to care about there teeth, and they won’t hurt like little Pearl did.”

Pearl’s momma liked this idea and agreed to the Tooth Fairy’s terms. The very next day, the rest of the Tooth Fairies moved in. They have been here ever since teaching us about taking care of our teeth and collecting baby teeth to make their magic.

Now that you know about their secret, you can help too. Always remember to keep your teeth healthy and when you loose a tooth, put it under your pillow and the Tooth Fairy will come visit you!

Well, I have to go, my mom says it's time for bed. I must brush my teeth first, and you remember to brush yours, too. Every healthy tooth has a bit a magic inside, and now that you know that, it's up to you to keep the magic alive for the Tooth Faries! Bye for now.
