fig.1 Boundary-layer dish microphone

This image is an illustration of the boundary-layer dish microphone. It depicts two views of the microphone, frontal and side, which have four main areas of importance pointed out.

A refers to the dish itself which is a household mixing bowl.

B is the housing for the microphone capsules power-supply. This is mounted on the exterior base of the dish.

C shows the positioning of the microphone capsule itself. Situated on the interior of the dish at the point where the base joins the wall of the dish.

D is the hand-grip of the dish-microphone assembly. It is mounted on the exterior of the dish close to the rim, and is angled so that the extremity of the hand-grip is further behind the rim than the point at which it is attached.

The whole assembly is shown as if held by the hand-grip, such that the rim of the dish is vertical, with the hand-grip and microphone capsule centred along the vertical axis when viewed from the front (open mouth) of the dish.
