The Last Words

After the image of Moses holding the tablets of stone fades from view, after the listing of the production staff and vocal talent, after the mention of consultants and the required legal statements about ownership and distribution of the film...the screen goes black. Then superimposed on it are three quotes and their associated sources. Those who have already left the theaters or turned off their video players may be unaware of these words and their placement in the film:

1. "Never again did there arise in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord singled out face to face..." Hebrew Bible, Deuteronomy 34:10

2. "[Moses] was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself..." New Testament, Acts 7:35

3. "And call to mind, through this divine writ, Moses. Behold he was a chosen one, and was an apostle [of God], a prophet." Qur'an-Surah 19:51

Charles Solomon, in the introduction to his book, The Prince of Egypt: A New Vision in Animation, shares some thoughts from "The Prince of Egypt Crew," which may provide some insight about the inclusion of the quotes.

As to why these last words are placed where they are least likely to be seen...we can only wonder.
