Gallery 7 : Aberdeen Ferryhill MPD

This 1978 view illustrates some of the variety of rolling stock to be found at Ferryhill at the time. Going from left to right, the first item is a Swindon Class 120 Diesel Multiple Unit, these were used on Aberdeen-Inverness services but were withdrawn by 1980 and transferred elsewhere.

Next to the Class 120 DMU are two Class 47 (Brush Type 4) locomotives - the one on the right has the original headcode display whilst the one on the left has the later sealed-up unit with two lights. Next, a Class 25 (Sulzer Type 2) with a Series One Bodyshell (these variants were built with gangway connectors to allow traincrew to move between moving locomotives, but they were all removed and sealed up with metal plates).

Next a Class 37 (English Electric Type 3) and then a Class 25 with a later (Series 2/3) bodyshell. Then a Class 47, and then a tank wagon and BR Standard Brake Van. The brakevans were derived from the LNER Standard Design (the Royal Deeside Railway has a preserved example of this design).

Finally a Class 25 (Series One Bodyshell) conceals a Class 37 or a Class 40 parked behind it.
