Rathen was built as a passing loop (the last such loop before Fraserburgh) and as such had two platforms and a station building.
Today one platform survives alongwith the station building which has been converted into a private residence. A bridge which was located at
the southern end of the station has been removed, the cutting being infilled to support a road. The remains of
a railway hut can be found at the Fraserburgh end of the station. South of Rathen the trackbed has not yet been converted to form
part of the "Formartine & Buchan Way" cycle-path, and as such is blocked off and cannot be accessed.
