In 1872 the GNSR extended the Banff, Macduff & Turriff Extention Railway from it's initial inconvenient terminus at Banff
& Macduff to a new terminus at Macduff. The new site was on the outside of the town (slightly closer than Banff &
Macduff) and although it had been planned to include a tramway to the fishing harbour it was not possible to do so due to
the positioning of the new station higher than planned, which ruled out using locomotives on the proposed tramway and hence
made the plans unfeasible.
The former passenger terminus buildings at Macduff survive together with the engine shed, and are currently used by Seaway, who
repair marine boats.
