Ask Blondy
This is just the start of my new "Ask Blondy" web column. When I start to get enough volume I may make it into a e-mail column newsletter thing. In my column, I will answer down-to-earth plain questions from dogs everywhere.

You can fill out this form here, or you can e-mail your questions to askthedog@go.com. Leave the subject as it is and include the name you want to be referred to. I will post the question and answer on this page. Please note: If you are a human, designate your e-mail so. That way when I answer your question, I'll know to use short words and easy to understand phrases.

Q & A
Dear Blondy,
What kind of house do you live in? Also, what kind of house do you recommend for the rest of us?
Looking for Shelter in Wyoming

Dear Looking,
I do not in any way condone makeshift housing for dogs. If you spend most of your time out doors, you need a sturdy, all weather dog house with a blanket and a nice soft pillow. If you are an indoors kind of dog, the couch, a stray pillow and blanket on the floor, or your boy or girl's bed will suffice.

For example, I sleep in my boy's bed at nights. Or, I'll crash on a pillow and sheet thrown on the floor. On the other hand, my trashy counterparts sleep fitfully in a old rabbit hutch with a couple blankets and a pillow strewn inside. For a door, an old bathroom mat is slung over the opening. Which do you prefer?

Dear Blondy,
I'm the mother of two teenage puppies, a boy and a girl. I having trouble keeping them in clothes, they refuse to wear a collar. My son is always tearing up the elegant and pretty collars my people get him. And my daughter is into the rebellion. She wants to wear these crazy leather jacket and boot sets. What can I do?
My Puppies are Naked in Chicago, IL

Dear Naked,
I prefer to wear a light-weight plain leather collar, so not to detract from my natural beauty. This also is less of a nuisance, especially for young children. Those expensive, extravagant collars you see models wearing in fashion magazines don't stand up to everyday wear. My advice: get your son a cool neon yellow or orange, nylon collar. He'll love it! And get your daughter a leather collar to match her outfit.

What do I think about jackets and boots? The jacket is a sensible idea. Dagwood, being a full-blooded short-hair Chihuahua, he needs some cold-protection in the winter. Also, I see no problem in wearing a shirt promoting your favorite baseball team or something of the sort.

Boots on the other hand are ridiculous. That is, of course, unless you have a medical condition. They just impair your ability to run and have fun. More so, you don't get that great feeling of the grass between your toes.

Finally, remember, puppies will be puppies. Yes, your daughter is rebelling, but she'll grow out of it. Be thankful your son has an active lifestyle and enjoys running. Too many puppies these days have gotten lazy and down on their job.
