Useful Web Pages
For the benefit of Mr. Polli among others, here is a collection of potentially useful and/or vaguely interesting pages available on the Web.
Navigation and net info
Internet Society, statistics, CIWA Gateway, CIN Archive, Net surfer, Starting point, Yahoo, Excite, ArchiePlex, Internet Sleuth, and so on. What exactly are URLs and would you call the doctor if you found one? There's also a thesis that some poor sod wrote for his Masters on the sociologists view of the net. No, don't ask me why I've included it - it's been a long day!
Companies and online shopping sites
Disability/Medical/Surgical Goods. Health Food Shops. Beauticians/Nail Salons/Tattooists. Computers and software.Newspapers, magazines and journals
What about all those journals and on-line magazines you were promised? Some of the more interesting or informative electronic versions of paper publications are: Private Eye. The Electronic Torygraph. The Times. The Independent. The Grauniad. The Financial Times. The Belfast Telegraph. Loaded. Also the productions of Future publishing, who have on-line versions of much of their stuff at Futurenet. These are pure web mags, with no hardcopy counterpart: Skew. State 51. Dominion. At your leisure, browse the pages of Urban Desires, the first magazine of its kind published exclusively on the WWW. Alternatively, the most important issues of our time are discussed in earnest in Men Only. Excellent! Hype is a media-orientated magazine with some good stuff, but a naturally heavy USA bias. Crossroads is also available for your perusal.
TAMU Radio is written by a couple of students at TAMU and is actually very good (even the poetry!). Cyberkind is all cyberspace-related stuff, both factual and fictitous, whereas CMC is purely fact-based.
Miscellaneous drivel
"What do you mean my credit's no good?" Go straight to the Visa page. Ho hum. Here are some pages with plenty of educational value and a fair smattering of artistic merit. Or is it just assorted nonsense - I can never remember. Beer in NYC. Voodoo. Novelty. Best of British. Words. Membrane. 4 Million Bucks. Your Choice mail order.
Film, radio and television
Here is a link to the Internet Movies Database ("movies" is the american word for "films"). You can use forms to search the database for just about anything. Also you could check the schedules for the Reading Film Theatre.Comic Relief. Monty Python. Babylon 5. BBC TV and Radio programme schedules. ITV. Channel 4. Channel 5. Virgin Radio.
Music
The Maughan Amplifier Company. Guitar Archive. Virgin. Malmsteen's Militia Fan Club. CDs/DVDs/Electronic Games.Games
Casino. Concentration. Basic. NetSpade. Chess. National Lottery. Casino II. Word Puzzles.
People worth links (and Robert Olley)
Unfortunately, Munro's page appears to have vanished from the Hertford server. One can only hope (!) that this is a temporary tragedy. In the meantime I have included Robert H Olley from the Reading University Polymer Science Center who is much less worthy. Some other dead wood has been trimmed, so here are the still-active links:
- Salleee Maughan
- Sarah Houston & Andrew Bond
- Chris Pownall
- Matt Woodman --- slaaaaaag extraordinaire! (This page seems to have vanished - where has it gone, Woody?)
- Tim Polli
- Jessica Cheung
- John Pelan
- Robert H. Olley
This page will grow over time and probably certain items will get pruned as well. The idea is to achieve a dynamic list of things of interest which you can add to your hotlist as desired.
