Friend News

This page lists any and all news concerning the show, Friends, and its cast.

Schwimmer Denies Rumours
19th April 2000
David Schwimmer has denied the recent reports stating that the cast of Friends are greedy because they are asking for $1 million US per episode to return next season. Even Schwimmer admits that would be totally unreasonable because that would be 8 times what the cast is making this season, which is $125,000 per episode. In other rumours, there are reports that Reese Witherspoon will be joining the cast of Friends permanently as Rachel's sister. Although this would be a refreshing change, I'm not so certain about the validity of this rumour.

By the way, the season finale of Friends will be on Thursday, May 18.
Will they or won't they...Schwimmer Injured
5th April 2000
The future of NBC's Friends is still up in the air. The latest reports indicate that the cast will decide in May. According to an insider, a seventh season is almost a certainty. Others continue to insist that some cast members, especially Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer, still aren't sure if they want to another season. What's certain is that if one of them go, they will all go. The Friends cast has always insisted that.

The season finale of Friends, and possibly the series finale, will be shown on May 18 on NBC. It will most likely be an hour long episode and will deal with the possible engagement, may be even marriage, of Chandler and Monica. More Spoilers!

Schwimmer Injured
David Schwimmer apparently injured his leg while at the boot camp training for Band of Brothers, and is now on crutches. According to IMDB, he's also apparently had some significant weight loss as a result of the training.
SPOILERS--Peek at Upcoming Episodes
29th March 2000
This week (The One After Vegas) and next week (The One With The Apothecary Table) will feature re-runs. However, if you're dying to know what's coming up on Friends, here it is: On April 27, in an episode called The One Where Ross Meets Elizabeth's Dad, Rachel gets revenge on Ross for dating her sister by pursuing Elizabeth's sexy father (Bruce Willis). Joey gets a new job as stage manager at the Mac 'N Cheese company and Phoebe decides to write a book about Monica and Chandler. On the episode The One Where Paul Is The Man which will be shown May 4, Rachel goes to Paul's family cabin with Elizabeth and Ross. Phoebe convinces Monica to rent a museum wedding chapel booked two years in advance, and Chandler freaks. Joey lands a role in another TV show. On May 11, in an episode called The One With The Ring, Rachel and Phoebe help Chandler deceive Monica as he prepares their surprise wedding. Ross and Joey look for more time without their engaged friend. The week after that will be the 6th season finale, which will probably be an one hour long episode. Details are not available yet but they will be. So, stay tuned.
Schwimmer Sent to Boot Camp 22nd March 2000
The British has been enlisted to whip David Schwimmer into shape for a new television mini-series being filmed by Steven Spielberg. Schwimmer was taken on Monday with the rest of the cast of the 13-hour series Band of Brothers, a spin-off from the Oscar-winning film "Saving Private Ryan", to barracks in the south of England for 10 days of rigorous physical training. Schwimmer will play an incompetent captain who is hated by his soldiers.
Bruce Willis to Guest Star, Is Friends Ending? 5th March 2000
"Die Hard" Willis Takes Guest Role on Friends
Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Sixth Sense) will do anything for his Friends. Matthew Perry, who befriended Willis while filming the hit movie The Whole Nine Yards, asked the star to make an appearance on NBC's Friends. Willis, last seen on TV as a psychiatrist in a 1997 episode of Ally McBeal, will appear in three episodes of Friends playing Paul Stevens, father of Ross's (David Schwimmer) new girlfriend. The first episode is scheduled to air on April 27. Willis, who normally makes $20 million per movie, will donate his fee to charity.

Friends to Go?
There have been numerous speculations and rumours that Friends, the most popular sitcom on TV, will be history at the conclusion of the current season. It appears to be true. According to recent reports, Lisa Kudrow, thinks the stars of Friends are too old to be playing twentysomethings characters and is reportedly urging her fellow cast members to call it quits when this season (the sixth season) ends.

Kudrow maintains that the characters' lifestyles are beyond belief at this point. She thinks that in real life, the aging members of the gang would be starting families and focusing on their careers, not whiling away the hours at a New York City coffee shop. Obviously, Kudrow, who was raved by critics for her role in The Opposite of Sex, has forgotten that she's starring in a comedy!
LeBlanc In Love With An Angel 25th January 2000
In other movie news Matt LeBlanc of NBC's Friends has signed on to play Lucy Liu's love interest in the upcoming Charlie's Angels movie which has already begun production.
Australian Beauty Joey's New Roommate 7th December 1999
Supermodel Elle Macpherson has been signed to appear on Friends during the November sweeps. For those of you who don't know, she appeared in the movie Sirens opposite Hugh Grant. She will play Joey's new roommate in a multiple-episode storyline and you can probably expect some romantic sparks between them. Who wouldn't want to be Elle's roommate? Some guys have all the luck!
Friends Cast will unite for Raises 5th October 1999
NBC's Emmy nominated Friends cast, whose contracts expire at the end of this season, intend to enter talks, planned to start late next month or in early December, as a group. According to The New York Post, the actors will ask for at least $250,000 per episode, or $5.5 million per Friend, per season. Currently, each Friend gets about $100,000 an episode, or $2.2 million for 22 episodes.

Warner Bros. has reportedly inked a deal with NBC worth $220 million over two years for the right to air "Friends" through mid-2002.
Courteney Changes Name 24th September 1999
Friends star, Courteney Cox, who wed actor David Arquette on June 12, has officially changed her name to Courteney Cox Arquette. "It's for real. It's on my Social Security card, everything. No hyphen,'' she told the Entertainment Tonight. "It feels like, wow, I'm changing my identity. It was scary. It feels good, like I'm really committed. It feels better than not doing it and it made him happy.''

Cox Arquette said she eventually plans to drop the Cox from her name. "The reason why is because it was really important for David, for me, too,'' she said. The season premiere was dedicated to Courteney and David. Also, did everyone see the credits? Everyone's last name had Arquette, not just Courteney. I guess, this means, David Arquette married everyone on the show. I guess the Friends people are really close, maybe a little too close! Just kidding!
