Emulating GT and GT2 using BLEEM

If you actually use this page Email Me, if no body emails me wanting to keep the Emulation page I will be removing it from the site.

So you wanna try to play Gran Turismo (2) on your computer eh? Well it's not really all that tough of a thing to do. For starters you're gonna need the game itself (duh, but I think you can use copies of the game, you don't have to have the original unlike the playstation that only plays originals, without some modifications that is :) and then you also need bleem! You can get a demo version of bleem! from their site, although it's got limitations (like no sound, and some other stuff I think, GRRRRR!) But you don't HAVE to put up with that, search around, and you'll find a cracked version of bleem! that plays games in all their glory, try starting at astalavista and just search for "bleem!" In the line of computer requirements, I would think at LEAST a PII 350, pref 64 mb ram (the more the better!) and a video card that supports direct 3d with at LEAST 8 mb of memory. A half decent CD-Rom drive would be good too (at least 20X according to the bleem! ppl).

When it comes down to actually playing the games, Gran Turismo is WAY better than Gran Turismo 2 on your computer, although it has it's faults as well. GT plays almost exactly the same graphically on your computer as the playstation, although one of the biggest pains is when you're driving "inside" the car, the rear-view mirror is all screwed up and you get lines flashing all over the screen. It's the same in GT2 unfortunately, see this screen shot (from GT2) to see what I mean. One other glitch I should mention is the sound, in both games the sound for the menu screens, and at the beginning/end of the races, is screwed up. It kinda crackles, I think it's all the digital sounds that's screwed. The music's fine though, as well as the car noises (although they're not exactly the same as on the Playstation). Other than that, and a glitch in the garage where your car names don't stay in the box (they run all through the screen) GT is pretty norm.

GT2 has some SERIOUS problems though. The game plays fine, but NONE of the cars have ANY textures! All the other drivers' cars are black, and your's is blue. The car itself is rendered perferctly, just minus some textures. Check out the GT2 screen shots to see what I mean. Another problem with GT2 is that the menu's get screwed up REAL good; occasionally they're just a mess of orange lines and it's like walking in the dark, you've no idea where you're going! Another rendering prob in GT2 is REAL distant objects, it's just a big clear void, doesn't look too pretty but it doesn't happen very often either so it's bearable!

All in all, both games are playable, at least on my computer. Of the two GT is a lot better, but hopefully if the guys at bleem! ever get their butts in gear we'll get an update and it'll work perfectly, I'm hoping anyway! In the mean time, enjoy!

Screen Shots

On some of these pictures you may notice a green tinge, well, that's supposed to be the smoke from tires and dust and whatnot, another glitch I forgot to mention above. I took these screen shots using Stimon (Still Image Monitor), it comes with Windows 98 (prob 95 too) and to take a screen shot you just hit the "Print Screen/Sys Rq" button beside "F12" and it "captures" the screen. Then just go into your fav photo software and hit paste. You can check to see if "Stimon" is running by hitting "alt", "ctrl", and "delete" at the same time, and look at the list of programs running. If it's not there go to the start menu, hit "run" and type in "C:\windows\system\stimon.exe" and it'll be running then.

These screen shots were taken on my computer, whos specs are:

I was running bleem! with "3D Hardware" "on" and all of the options checked except the texture sharing option (it says it uses less memory that way), because it screwed up the textures. The sound was at the default settings (I suggest you keep it there, any higher and performance takes a HUGE blow)

These are the screen shots from GT. How can you NOT like these graphics??? All of these pics were taken while in the replay mode, so that helps to make them look better but still, they kick ass! The view that the screen shot of the Viper was taken from is the BEST, it pans from the front of the car to the back while following it, almost breathtaking to watch! If I had the means, I'd make a lil video for ya'll, maybe another time! One more note, that GTO screen shot, that car's so kewl, on the test course just go full out into the corner, then slowly steer into the wall, you'll go flying every time!

These are all the GT2 screen shots. They illustrate what I was talking about when I said no textures were applied to the cars, the game's still fun to play though!
