Finding A Way Back

(I made a few assumptions about Rae and Alan’ past when I wrote this. The history I created is that Alan and Rae had an affair and Eve was the product of that affair. Also, that the affair with Rae and Alan was rekindled after Monica and Alan were married.)

The morning after finding out about Alan’s affair with Rae.

Monica wakes up to find Alan gone to the hospital already. Monica gets out of bed, feeling completely lost and betrayed, and heads for the shower. While she is taking a shower she thinks back on the look in Alan’s eyes while he was telling her about the affair. The look in Alan’s eyes tells her that what he had with Rae it was more than a fling it was something far deeper and they shared more than just sex. The memory of the look in Alan’s eyes brings fresh tears to Monica’s eyes as she is finishing her shower. The memory of the whole mess just far too much to take right now besides Monica feels like she has lost Alan, or part of him, to Rae.

Monica to herself in the mirror: This is one affair I am not sure Alan and I can get past. How do we move on when he still has feelings for her? How exactly do I trust him I’ve seen that look in his eyes before and I can’t do it again. I can’t battle another woman for him if he doesn’t want to be won back? That will just break my heart, I need to get away from here and just figure out what to do.

Monica sits down at the desk and writes Alan a note telling him she is leaving to sort out this mess and not to worry about her she will be fine.

In a move not typical of Monica she, without a fight, packs a bag and calls a cab. The cab takes her to the shuttle to New York where she goes to the airport. At the airport while Monica is standing in line to get a ticket she watches the screen and sees a flight leaving Boston, Orlando, Paris, Minneapolis, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Seattle all leaving shortly. Well of those choices the only one with a beach to walk and think on would be LA so that is where she buys a ticket to go to.

Two hours later at 11 am with everyone on board the plane Monica sitting in a window seat watches out the window as the plane begins its taxi down the runway, off the ground, and out of New York. Monica sits sadly looking out the window at the clouds and the terrain below. During the flight drinks and food are served and the pilot points out major towns or tourist spots they are flying over none of which Monica pays any attention to. The flight finally ends as they land at Los Angeles International Airport to a beautiful sunny 75-degree day. Monica heads to find her luggage then off to get a rental car. All that thankfully doesn’t take that long and she heads north on Pacific Coast Highway with map in hand. After 2 hours or maybe a little more indicating she is in Santa Barbara comes into view and Monica decides to stop. After a few minutes Monica finds a hotel on the ocean and goes in to get a room. Check in takes a matter of a few minutes and off to the room Monica goes.

About 6 pm Monica is just getting to her room where she looks around the room small but it has a nice balcony with a view of the ocean so it will be just fine. Monica gets into her suitcase and gets out a pair of jeans and a short sleeved shirt puts them on and heads down to the beach the sun is still warm but there is a breeze blowing off the ocean. She sits on the sand and just thinks back on the events of the last 2 days. The tears again start flowing. Sadly Monica just stares out into the ocean. She suddenly realizes how strange it is to see the sun setting over the water. She is so accustomed to watching the sunrise over the water in New York but maybe this is perfect everything is upside down or backward or something that feels strange just like the rest of her life.

Scene flashes to Alan who has just come home and finds the bedroom minus Monica. Something feels off but just what he can’t quite figure out. Alan heads out onto the balcony looking for Monica but finds empty furniture. (The note Monica left on her dressing table blows off and falls to the floor with the breeze from the French doors opening.) Alan looks in the bathroom still no Monica. Alan heads back downstairs to see if anyone knows where Monica is since her car is in the garage he knows she has to be here somewhere.

Alan to Reginald: Reginald have you seen Monica?

Reginald: Not since she left with a suitcase this morning.

Alan questioning: Did she say where she was going?

Reginald: Well actually I stayed clear of her she looked like she was crying and you know how she likes to cry in front of anyone.

Alan: Thanks. Have you seen my mother?

Reginald: She is in the den.

Alan as he walks away: Thanks.

Alan walking into the den where Lila is sitting reading.

Alan: Mother have you seen Monica?

Lila: No but Reginald said she left this morning and that she had been crying. What is going on dear?

Alan: If you have a few hours I will tell you why Monica left.

Scene fades back to Monica.

Monica finally gets up, brushes the sand off, and heads back to the hotel to find something to eat. Monica settles on a little restaurant just up the road. After Monica finishes dinner she heads back to the hotel to try to get some sleep. A half-hour later, Monica falls into bed where she falls into a fitful sleep and tosses and turns waking several times during the night. Finally Monica gives up and goes to takes shower at 4:30. As she is drying her hair the look in Alan’s eyes keep coming to her and the sadness returns. Finally about 6 Monica heads down to the restaurant in the hotel where there is a buffet is set up, gets a plate fills it with a bagel and some fruit, and heads out onto the balcony food in hand. Thankfully it is early and nobody else is outside eating yet. Monica eats a few bites and decides she isn’t hungry any more so she goes down the stairs to the beach. After she walks a short distance she stops and sits down on the sand which is still cold and damp but Monica doesn’t really care much. Monica’s thoughts drift back to Alan. Monica remembers their first marriage then the second; the affairs with Rick, Susan, Phillipe, Sean, Pierce, and Lucy; the fiery fights; the passionate make-ups; her battle with cancer; Alan’s battle with drug addiction; and finally to Rae.

Monica to herself: All those awful things we did to each other and we found a way back to each other but I don’t know if that is possible this time. Through it all we always knew nobody could make the other happy until now. (Monica flashes back to Alan’s confession about his affair with Rae and the look in his eyes tells her he has feelings for Rae beyond just an affair and they have a child together that he never knew about.)

The beach is getting more crowded and Monica decides to go back and change into her bathing suit and go for a swim. Monica walks back toward the hotel.

Scene flashes to Alan coming into the den for breakfast.

Alan: Morning mother.

Lila: Good morning darling. Could I talk to you out on the patio?

Alan solemnly: Of course.

Out on the balcony.

Lila: Any luck finding Monica?

Alan: No. From what I can tell she took the shuttle to New York and from there I am not sure.

Lila: Alan, you need to find Monica and fix this mess.

Alan: First I have to find her and I am not sure she wants to be found at this point.

Lila: Don’t give up you know when Monica is hurt she withdraws and shuts off. But this time instead of fighting she walked away that sure doesn’t seem like Monica no matter how hurt she was.

Alan: I know that is what scares me most. Monica never runs she yells, throws things, or kicks me out but never once has she walked silently away.

Lila: Why is this time different from any of the other times? Could it be this time you hurt her more than she could handle or that she doesn’t think there is anything left to fight for?

Alan: Mother I don’t know nor do I how to change the fact she thinks I am in love with Rae and Eve being my child only complicates that more for Monica at least.

Lila: Are you still in love with Rae?

Alan: The affair was a long time ago and I chose Monica then and still chose her. I just don’t know how to convince Monica what Rae and I shared is over and we are just friends now.

Lila solemnly: First you have to find Monica.

Scene fade back to Monica walking into the water wearing in her baby blue bathing suit. We watch her swim a considerable distance from shore then turn and come back. She comes out of the water and goes and lays on her towel and falls asleep with the warmth of the sun hitting her skin. About an hour later, a gorgeous tan, blue eyed, blond man approaches Monica.

Man: Excuse me but I don’t think you want to fall asleep in the sun here for too long.

Monica sleepily: Thanks for waking me.

Man extends his hand: I am Kyle.

Monica reaching for his hand and shaking it: I am Monica. Nice to meet you.

Kyle: Nice to meet you too. Maybe I will see you later.

Monica: Yeah maybe. I guess I should get headed back to my hotel.

Just then Kyle spots a little boy out in the water and he without a word heads quickly for the water. Kyle swims out to where the little boy is struggling with the rip tide and takes hold of him. Kyle swims parallel to the shore for maybe 50 feet then turns toward the shore towing the child with him. As Kyle pulls the child onto the beach Monica is there to help but the little boy is fine except for the salt water he drank and after a few minutes his parents take him back to where they are sitting.

Monica: How did you notice him out there?

Kyle: I don’t know how I spotted him but as soon as I did I knew he was way to far out and by how he was struggling he needed some help. I am just glad I spotted him when I did.

Monica: Me too he might not have made it back to shore without your help. There those currents are pretty strong out there.

Kyle: You are right about those currents. I saw you swim out earlier and it looked like you handled them just fine.

Monica giggling: You were watching me?

Kyle: I noticed you swim out pretty far. I was starting to wonder if I was going to have to get a boat and come for you.

Monica laughing: No I just needed to clear my head and swimming is one way I do that.

Kyle: Well after a swim I am hungry. Can I interest you in lunch?

Monica hesitantly: I think I might not be very good company but thank you anyway.

Kyle: Come on you need to eat lousy company or not.

Monica smiling: Ok, I need to go change. Do you want me to meet you some place?

Kyle: No I will pick you up. Where are you staying? And how long will it take you to get ready?

Monica pointing: Right there. I will meet you in the lobby and give me a half-hour Ok?

Kyle: Ok see you then.

Scene fade back to Alan sitting in his office on the phone with the airline trying to find Monica.

Alan frustrated: I just want to know if she got on a damn plane and where she went.

Airline representative: Sorry that is confidential information. I am sorry.

Alan irritate: Forget it.

Alan gets up and paces around. There is a knock at the door that Alan tries to ignore but the knocking persists.

Alan irritated: What?

Gail: Alan what is wrong?

Alan: Nothing. Everything. Why? What can I do for you?

Gail: Can I help?

Alan: Not unless you can tell me where Monica is.

Gail: Sorry no that is why I came looking for you. Monica and I were supposed to have lunch and she did not show up and I can’t seem to reach her.

Alan sadly: Monica is gone and I am sorry to say I have no idea where she is. I was hoping she had told you where she was going.

Gail: Alan why would Monica just leave and not tell anyone where she was going?

Alan sadly: I guess you haven’t heard the rumors flying around the hospital.

Gail concerned: I hear rumors flying around all the time but nothing that would make Monica leave without telling anyone where she was going. What is going on here?

Alan: Sit down it’s kind of a long story. (Alan sits and tells Gail what happened with Rae and Monica’s reaction when he told her.)

Gail: Well it is certainly not a good sign that Monica just left and did not tell anyone or called anyone since she has been gone. Sounds like she is beyond hurt at this point maybe she will come back soon and she will be ready to talk.

Alan sadly: I hope so. I will keep looking for her in the meantime. Maybe I will get lucky and find her.

Gail hugging Alan: Good luck. You know if Monica doesn’t want to be found you may not find her until she is ready to talk to you.

Alan: You know that thought really scares me and I know you are right but I still have to try.

Scene changes back to Monica and Kyle finishing having lunch.

Kyle: Thank-you for coming to lunch with me. I had a nice afternoon.

Monica: I had a nice afternoon too and thanks for inviting me.

Kyle: Can I interest you in a walk on the beach now?

Monica: Actually that sounds perfect.

Monica and Kyle head off for their walk on the beach. Kyle decides to ask Monica about herself since the lunch conversation she had kept mainly to and her finding out about him that he is doctor (a plastic surgeon and head of the department actually) and lived here his whole life except when he went to medical school.

Kyle: Now that you know about me do I get to find out about you?

Monica laughing slightly: What do you want to know?

Kyle: Where you live and what you do. All the normal stuff.

Monica: I live in Port Charles, New York I am a cardiologist and head of the cardiology department. Lets see, 3 kids one mine the other two adopted. (Stopping to look at Kyle.)

Kyle: Wow, I guess you were a doctor on the beach but a cardiologist and head of the department that is pretty impressive.

Monica smiling: You aren’t exactly a bum.

Kyle laughing: Guess we are both busy to say the least.

Monica and Kyle continue to walk down the beach and keep the conversation going. They walk for a while then turn back. Kyle takes Monica up to her room at the hotel. At the door.

Monica turns to Kyle: Thank-you I had a nice time today.

Kyle looking into Monica’s eyes: Me too. How about we do something tomorrow if you are not busy.

Monica looking somewhat relieved that he is going to leave and not come in: Ok. What did you have in mind?

Kyle: How about I surprise you.

Monica: How should I dress?

Kyle: Jeans are fine. What time should I pick you up?

Monica: Ok. How about noon?

Kyle leans in and kisses Monica gently and Monica responds but quickly breaks the kiss.

Kyle looks into Monica’s eyes and sees something strange, sadness perhaps: I will pick you up tomorrow.

Monica: Good night.

Monica closes the door and walks toward the couch. Monica flops down on the couch and just thinks back on the events of the day. She realizes she had fun today which actually sort of catches her off guard. At that realization her thoughts turn to Alan and their problems. After sitting thinking and trying to figure out why she is here and where to go from here she realizes it is dark out and she is so tired probably more mentally than physically. She gets into the shower and her mind drifts back to Alan and the look in his eyes when he told her about Rae. Still trying to figure out just what that look in his eyes means for their future Monica heads off to bed still confused and upset.

Scene flashes back to Alan in the den with Lila.

Lila: Alan did you find any clue to where Monica went?

Alan: No and Gail came to see me today because Monica was supposed to have lunch with her and she did not show up or call.

Lila: Did you tell Gail why Monica left?

Alan: Yes, I thought maybe if I told her she might have some ideas on where to look but she didn’t. Actually, she thought Monica just leaving was not a great sign either.

Lila: I am sorry my dear. Will you let me know if there is anything I can do?

Alan: Yes.

Lila: Good night.

Alan: Good night.

Alan walks out onto the patio and looks up at the stars trying to figure out what to do next. While he is staring up at the sky the patio doors open and Rae comes walking out.

Rae: Alan.

Alan: Rae what are you doing here?

Rae: Tony told me that Monica left and no one seems to know where she is. I was concerned about you so I thought I would come over and see how you are doing.

Alan sadly: Well besides my wife being gone and I have no clue to where she is or even if she is ok I guess I am fine.

Rae: Is Monica always so insecure and possessive?

Alan smiling slightly at memories of Monica possessiveness: Actually I guess yes. Although, usually she stays and fights and drives me crazy. She has never just silently walked away. Not a great sign for me I would say.

Rae: I am sorry. Maybe it would have been better to tell her the truth when I first came to town but we can’t change the past all we can do is focus on the future. How about I take you to dinner so at least you do something besides worry.

Alan: I think I might just be terrible company right about now.

Rae: I think I can handle it.

Alan and Rae head off to find some dinner. They decide to eat at the PC hotel. They sit and talk about nothing in particular and after a nice dinner they decide to take a walk on the docks. On the docks.

Alan: It sure was a shock to have you walk right into my living room.

Rae smiling at Alan: I thought it was Monica’s living room.

Alan laughs at the joke: Caught that did you?

Rae: Caught that it was Monica’s house yes and that you gave it to her but why is it such a family joke?

Alan: Because Monica has kicked the family out before when we were having problems. Actually it is pretty funny because when I gave Monica the house I put a stipulation on it; she can’t sell the house until I die or sign off on it. Not to mention my father hates the fact Monica can just kick him out whenever she wants to. Besides whenever Monica doesn’t like something she reminds everyone it is her house.

Rae: If I were Monica I would have kicked Edward out a long time ago.

Alan smiling: Actually Monica and father have an interesting relationship. He actually does love her and she loves him too. They spar at every opportunity probably because Monica is strong willed and driven just like father so they butt heads a lot.

Rae: You really do love her don’t you?

Alan: Actually, I can’t imagine my life without her. I thought I might loose her to cancer and that was impossible for me to accept but loosing her because (drifting off)

Rae: us?

Alan: I should have told her a long time ago but I didn’t and I could have told her when you first came to town but I really should have told her when she begged me for the truth.

Rae: Why didn’t you?

Alan: Honestly?

Rae: Obviously.

Alan smiling: Well I didn’t want Monica’s wrath unleashed on you and I was afraid of just what her reaction would be.

Rae: Guess you had some basis in that fear of Monica’s reaction and don’t worry about me. Monica’s wrath doesn’t scare me. Besides, Monica doesn’t have anything to fear from me; you two obviously belong together.

Alan sadly: Monica’s reaction was not what I expected. I expected yelling and screaming and maybe her tossing me out again but not Monica walking away silently. Her leaving like that can only mean a couple of things, one that she is divorcing me or two that I hurt her so deeply she might never come back. I think the second would be harder to live with because I might never see her again.

Rae: I am sorry.

Alan: It is definitely not your fault. I should know my wife well enough, after all these years, to know she would have sensed something between us. Monica always seems to know what I am thinking or feeling without me ever telling her and usually I can do the same with her but this time I guess I just assumed she would react the same way she always has. Maybe if I actually looked into her eyes I would have known but I didn’t I was afraid of what I might see, or maybe not see there any more.

Rae: I wish I could do something to help you.

Alan sadly: Me too but thanks for just being here.

Scene fade to the next morning where Monica is sitting outside on the balcony of the restaurant finishing breakfast. Monica walks down the stairs to the beach and takes a leisurely walk on the beach. After a short walk Monica stops, sits down, and stares out into the ocean at the boats out at sea. Monica gets lost in her thoughts just watching the waves roll in. Even now after spending some time away she can’t envision going back to Port Charles and dealing with Alan, his affair, or his daughter. Monica looks down at her watch and realizes Kyle will be at the hotel shortly and she needs to get back and change clothes quick. 20 minutes later, Monica has just finished changing and Kyle knocks on the door.

Monica: Good timing I just got changed.

Kyle: You look great. Are you ready?

Monica smiling: Do I get to know where we are going?

Kyle tentatively: Well there is a stable nearby and I was thinking it might be fun to take some horses out onto the trails they have, unless you would prefer just driving up the coast.

Monica smiling: Actually riding sounds like fun.

Kyle relieved: Good then let’s go.

Monica and Kyle head off to the stable where there are two horses waiting for them. They take the horses and head off for one of the trails. The sun is shining and the mountains have wild flowers growing everywhere.

Kyle: Well what do you think?

Monica: It is beautiful here. Thank-you for bringing me.

Kyle: I would like to bring you here all the time.

Monica slightly taken back by that admission: I am not sure what to say to that.

Kyle: Nothing until you are ready to.

They continue their ride quietly lost in their own thoughts. Kyle wondering why Monica is holding back and Monica wondering what she wants to do about Kyle. The rest of the ride is spent with either idle chit chat or silently riding along.

Scene fade back to Alan at the hospital.

Alan is sitting at his desk staring at a picture of Monica smiling at him wondering what the future holds for them.

Alan talking to the picture: Monica where are you? Are you ever coming back?

The phone rings and Alan grabs it.

Alan: Dr. Quartermaine.

Sally: Dr. Quartermaine I was just cleaning your room and when I moved the trash can I found a note to you.

Alan: Thank-you Sally I will be right home.

Alan hangs up the phone and walks out to his car and drives home. When he walks in the front door Sally walks out of the den holding the sealed note for him.

Alan as he takes the note: Thank-you.

Sally as she is walking away: Your welcome.

Alan walks into the den opening the note. Alan reads the note.

Alan,

I am leaving for a while to sort out this mess. Right now I have no idea what I feel and after seeing the look in your eyes last night I am pretty sure you feel the same. I know I have always loved you but maybe our love can only end up ultimately destroying each other and perhaps after all this time with all the fights and affairs it is time for us to end the continual pain we inflict on each other and simply move on. I don’t know what the answer is and hopefully some time away will help me figure out what the right thing to do is.

The only thing I know for sure is I need to get away from here so leaving. I don’t know where I am going yet or how long I will be gone. I hope me leaving helps you to find some answers too.

Monica

Alan just sits there staring down at the note that truly confirms his fears Monica is so hurt she may never come back to him.

Scene fade back to Monica and Kyle who have just finished dinner and are heading down for a walk on the beach at sunset.

Monica: Thank-you, I had a really good time today.

Kyle: Thank-you for going with me and just for the record I had fun too.

Monica smiles back at him as Kyle pulls her into a slight kiss and Monica is surprised but responds and returns the kiss. Kyle breaks the kiss and takes Monica’s hand as they sit down on the sand watching the waves roll in for a while.

Kyle looking into Monica’s eyes sees that same sadness he saw before: Monica I have never met anyone like you.

Monica smiling: I am not sure the world could handle two of me.

Kyle: I am serious.

Monica not sure how to respond: You sure do know how to make me feel good.

Kyle smiling as he stands and offers Monica his hand, which she takes: Glad to be of assistance. Let’s head back.

Monica still holding Kyle’s hand: Ok.

They walk back down the beach still holding hands. Kyle takes Monica back to the hotel. They have just sat down on the couch in Monica’s room.

Kyle leans toward Monica and starts kissing her, which Monica responds quickly to. Kyle’s hands start roaming up and down Monica’s sides and Monica’s arms are around Kyle’s neck. Kyle’s hands leave Monica’s sides and begin to undo the buttons to her shirt. Monica responds by removing Kyle’s shirt. Kyle stands up and takes Monica into his arms carrying her into the bedroom. They kiss the entire way to the bed where Kyle gently places Monica on the bed and lowers himself on top of her.

In the afterglow. Monica is sleeping on her stomach facing Kyle. Kyle is just watching Monica sleep and gently playing with her hair. Kyle wonders if that sadness in Monica’s eyes is connected to the slight scar on her breast, obviously reconstruction. Monica begins to wake and Kyle kisses her cheek.

Kyle: Did you have a nice nap?

Monica slightly smiling: Actually I slept better than I have in quite a while.

Kyle wondering how to ask Monica about the scar: Monica I don’t know how to ask you this except just ask.

Monica: What?

Kyle as his hand moves under the sheet to her breast. Monica catches on quickly.

Monica looking into Kyle’s eyes searching for a reaction: I battled breast cancer a couple years ago.

Kyle searching Monica’s eyes for the same pain he saw before: How long ago?

Monica still searching his eyes: I just past my 5 year check up and am still cancer-free.

Kyle looking relieved: I am just glad you survived and are here with me now. The scar is just a reminder you survived.

Monica tries to hide her shock at his similar response to Alan’s by pulling herself into Kyle and hugging him.

Kyle returning the hug: Monica are you ok?

Monica a little shaken: Yeah I’m fine.

Kyle keeps Monica in a tight embrace until Monica pulls away and Kyle gently kisses her and Monica responds and returns the kiss turning it passionate.

Later they head off to get dinner. At the restaurant, Kyle has his arm around Monica’s waist as they are led to a private table by the window and they sit down.

Kyle: Did I tell you that you look beautiful tonight?

Monica smiling: No but thank-you. You look very nice yourself.

Kyle: Thank-you. There is some place I would like to take you tomorrow if you are interested.

Monica: Do I get to know where I am going this time?

Kyle: If you want to know I guess I could tell you.

Monica: There is one thing you should know about me, patience is not my strong suit so I always want to know.

Kyle laughing: Ok, how about we take my boat out tomorrow?

Monica: Ok. That sounds like fun actually.

They spend the rest of dinner just enjoying each others company and when they are done Kyle takes Monica back to his house after they stop at her hotel and pick up some clothes for tomorrow. Kyle shows Monica around the house.

Monica as she sits on the couch in the living room: I like your house. It feels so comfortable. Not at all like my house.

Kyle intrigued: What do you mean?

Monica: Someone is always yelling or fighting about something so there is never any quiet unless it is the middle of the night and even then that is not always.

Kyle: Sounds like you live in a zoo.

Monica laughing at that visual image: Sometimes I think it is more of a circus.

Kyle turning serious: Is that why you came here?

Monica: Actually no the circus I can live with. My husband I am not so sure about.

Kyle: Husband?

Monica: I actually came to figure out if there is anything left of my marriage.

Kyle: What happened?

Monica: I found out about another affair he had.

Kyle: Does he do that often?

Monica laughing a bit: Actually we have both had our share of affairs but this one was different.

Kyle looking confused: What do you mean?

Monica: He lied about the affair and they have a child together and he still has feelings for Rae.

Kyle confused: What are you going to do?

Monica: I have no idea. On one hand I love him on the other I don’t want to spend the rest of my life wondering if I am the person he really wants to be with.

Kyle: Difficult decision. Personally, I would like it if you stayed right here.

Monica sadly: I can’t stay here forever. My life, my children, and my job are all back in Port Charles.

Kyle: You could change that by moving here.

Monica: I am not ready to do that. I’m sorry.

Kyle: I hope you know that If I had known you were married I never would have chased after you. I don’t make it a practice to chase after married women.

Monica sadly: I am sorry.

Kyle: I kept seeing flashes of sadness in your eyes I just didn’t know why. After I found your scar I thought it was from the cancer. Guess I understand now the sadness was about your husband.

Monica: What do you mean you saw something in my eyes?

Kyle: Several times I saw something sad in your eyes.

Monica: Usually I keep my feelings in check better than that. (hesitating a bit) Alan is the only one who has ever been able to read my feelings like that. Actually you made several comments that reminded me of him.

Kyle: Like what?

Monica: Today when you said it my scar was only a reminder that I survived and that was what was important.

Kyle: Go on?

Monica: Alan said something very close to that several different times. I just had a hard time believing him when he said it.

Kyle: Did you believe me?

Monica: I don’t have the same self-image problem I had 5 years ago but yes I believed you.

Kyle: I meant what I said.

Monica smiling at Kyle: Thank-you.

Kyle: Caring about you is not the issue here. How you feel about your husband is.

Monica: I don’t know what to say.

Kyle: I don’t think there is a lot to say right now maybe we should just get some sleep and see how things look in the morning.

Monica: Maybe I should go back to my room at the hotel. I don’t want to hurt you any more than I already have.

Kyle reaches out for Monica’s hand, which she takes: Come on I will take you to your hotel.

Kyle: Call me if you decide your marriage is over.

Monica: Ok. Are you ok?

Kyle: I am fine. Are you ok?

Monica: I think so.

Kyle takes Monica back to her room. As Monica comes into her room she sits down on the couch.

Monica to herself: I need to figure out what I feel for Alan. I know I have never stopped loving him but trusting him is another story all together. I guess eventually I have to call him might as well be now.

Monica reaches for the phone and dials the private line to their bedroom.

Alan: Dr. Quartermaine.

Monica: Hi.

Alan: Monica where the hell are you?

Monica ignoring the question: I just wanted to hear your voice.

Alan softening: Are you ok?

Monica: I think so. A lot has happened since I left.

Alan suddenly afraid of what she is going to say: Do I want to know what that means?

Monica: I don’t know how to answer that. What do you want? From our marriage I mean.

Alan confused: What exactly are you asking me here Monica?

Monica: Do you want us back or do you want out?

Alan: Monica I chose you then and that hasn’t changed.

Monica quietly: Maybe we should talk before you say anything else.

Alan: Monica, are you leaving me?

Monica: Alan

Alan interrupting: Tell me where you are and I will be right there.

Monica mustering up some courage: Santa Barbara, California.

Alan: I am going to get the Q jet and I will be out there as soon as I can.

Monica: I can meet the plane.

Alan: No just tell me where you are staying and I will get a taxi when we land. That will be easier than you waiting for me at the airport in the middle of the night for god knows how long. I have no idea how long it will take the get the jet ready.

Monica: Are you sure? I really don’t mind coming to the airport.

Alan: I would prefer it if I knew you were not waiting in the airport for hours.

Monica: Ok, I will let the desk know to give you a key so you can get in.

Alan: Go get some sleep. I will see you as soon as I can get out there.

Monica: Try to get some sleep on the plane. Good night.

Alan calls James and tells him the needs the jet fueled and ready to go immediately. James tells Alan it will be about an hour or so before the plane will be ready to go. An hour later, Alan is aboard the plane and James tells him they have been cleared for take-off. The flight drags on forever. Alan and Monica both doze off several times but quickly awaken. Both are very nervous about seeing the other again. Alan’s flight finally lands at 5 am. Alan quickly gathers his bag and heads out to grab a taxi. He takes the ride to Monica’s hotel quietly as he tries to figure out what will happen when they talk. When he arrives he gets the key from the front desk and heads up to Monica’s room. As he opens the door Monica hears the door open and walks toward Alan.

Monica: Hi

Alan searching Monica’s eyes: Hi. Guess you did not sleep well either.

Monica searching Alan’s eyes: No not really. I was a little nervous about you coming here.

Alan: I was nervous about coming here.

Monica: Come on in and put your bag down.

Alan and Monica walk for the couch and sit facing each other close together but not touching. Neither one quite sure where to start.

Monica gathers courage and starts: I couldn’t stand the distance or the lies between us so I left to spend some time alone thinking.

Alan: And?

Monica: I spent a lot of time sitting on the beach thinking and I tried swimming.

Alan interrupting: That doesn’t sound very good for me.

Monica: I don’t know how to tell you what I need to tell you. I know you are going to be angry but if our marriage has any chance of surviving we need to change. We need to start with the truth. We both need to know…

Alan interrupting again: Monica, trust me (slight pause) trust us (as he reaches out for her hand)

Monica reaches out and takes his hand: I wish I could change the last week but I can’t.

Alan letting go of her hand and taking his hand to her cheek: Just tell me. Whatever you have to tell me can’t be that bad.

Monica closes her eyes for a moment then begins: It can be. Alan, I was so hurt by your lies and you not trusting me enough to tell me the truth. I came here not knowing if we still had a marriage. (pausing slightly) God I don’t know how to do this.

Alan still touching her cheek: Just tell me and trust that we can get past whatever it is.

Monica quietly: I met someone here. (Alan withdraws his hand from Monica’s cheek as Monica continues) And I had an affair with him.

Alan looking like Monica punched him: I guess that says it all doesn’t it. I cheat you cheat. Nothing really changes.

Monica: Alan, I could have kept it a secret. The only thing I could think of was that if our marriage is going to continue it has to be based on not just love but trust and honestly.

Alan angry: Did you have to come to California to cheat on me? Was there nobody in Port Charles you wanted to jump into bed with?

Monica getting angry: I don’t think you should go there. Alan your lies and your attempt to hide an old affair from me started this whole mess.

Alan momentarily silenced by the honestly of that statement: Maybe it would have been easier if you had not told me.

Monica sadly: But that would mean nothing changed in our marriage and we would eventually wind up hurting each other again.

Alan looking into Monica’s eyes: What do you want me to do now?

Monica returning the gaze: What do you want to do?

Alan: Kill him. Kill you. Hell I don’t know.

Monica: Well you haven’t been terribly successful at that before.

Alan smiling slightly: I know I sort of remind myself of roadrunner.

Monica giggling at that image: Maybe trying something different would be healthier not to mention safer for both of us.

Alan looking into Monica’s eyes: Why did you let me come out here?

Monica looking back at Alan: I love you. I always have and I always will. I don’t want our marriage to end but if we can’t get past this I at least want to be able to say that in the end we finally told the truth to each other.

Alan softening: Our respective affairs have taken quite a toll on each other haven’t they?

Monica: I thought after my cancer and your drug addiction that we could tell each other the truth where we couldn’t before. I thought our love was strong enough to handle the truth but your lying about Rae only proved me wrong.

Alan sadly: It wasn’t that I didn’t trust you.

Monica: No? If that were a true statement, Alan Quartermaine, we would not be here now.

Alan: I was scared of how you would react. Not that I didn’t trust you.

Monica: Do you see those two things are connected?

Alan in a near whisper: Yes I guess I do.

Monica: And what do we do now?

Alan: Try again. This time we start with the truth. What do you want to know about Rae and I?

Monica: Do you love her?

Alan: I care about her but I love you.

Monica: I don’t know what else I want to know but for now I just need to know that if I ask you something you will tell me the honest truth. (pausing) Do you want to know what happened here?

Alan: I just want to know why?

Monica: Kyle said all the right things, he was supportive, and he didn’t push me. Actually he reminded me of you before I hurt you so many times. (laughing a little) One slight difference though he isn’t possessive.

Alan smiling: I hate him already and I thought you sort of liked me being possessive.

Monica: Don’t hate him because if it weren’t for him I might have stayed hidden here for god knows how long before I ever called you, if I never called you. And for the record a little possessive is good for my ego trying to kill me takes possessive a little too far.

Alan hit by that comment: So are you saying I should thank him?

Monica giggling: No but he made me see I needed to see you and figure out how I felt before I could do anything else.

Alan quietly: Why do we keep hurting each other?

Monica: I don’t know but somehow we need to stop hurting each other and just learn to love and trust each other the way we are.

Alan: Can we do that?

Monica moving closer to Alan and looking into his eyes: I hope so. I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you.

Alan looking into Monica’s eyes: I do love you.

They are so close they can almost feel each other’s breath. Both are afraid to make the first move. Looking into each other’s eyes they both move into a gentle kiss and which all to quickly both break. Both wanting more but not ready to be that vulnerable yet.

Monica: How about we take a walk on the beach?

Alan: I think that sounds nice.

They head off down to the beach walking closely but nothing more. They walk down the beach a distance when Monica reaches over and takes Alan’s hand. Alan smiles at the gesture and squeezes her hand back.

Alan: Are you getting hungry?

Monica: I guess so.

Alan: Let’s go find something to eat. Ok?

Monica: Yeah.

They walk back still holding hands but the tension between them is still evident. They get back to the hotel and walk into the restaurant and decide just to eat off the buffet. While they are sitting eating they keep stealing glances at the other but quickly look away. A man approaches.

Man: Alan?

Alan surprised: Steve? Steve Jackson. What are you doing here?

Steve: I moved here after med. school.

Alan: Really? I had no idea. Steve this is my wife Monica. Monica this is Steve.

Steve shaking Monica’s hand: Nice to meet you Monica. So, what are you doing here?

Alan hesitating: Aah vacation actually.

Steve: Really well this is a great place you will love it.

Alan strangely: Thanks.

Steve: Maybe we could get together for a drink or something while you are here.

Alan: That would be great.

Steve: Do you have plans for tonight?

Alan looking at Monica for help: I’m not sure why?

Steve: Well I have tickets to a hockey game tonight and I can’t go. I have two sick doctors I have to cover for so I can’t go. Would you like to go?

Alan looking at Monica then back to Steve: Yeah that would be great.

Steve pulls out his wallet and hands the tickets over: Hope you have fun. Better leave here early because traffic will be a little messy around the Staple Center.

Alan: This is great thanks. Give us a call we are staying here room 403.

Steve: Well off to work. Nice to meet you Monica.

Monica: Nice to meet you too. Thanks for the tickets.

Steve: Bye Alan. Enjoy the game.

Alan shaking Steve’s hand: Bye Steve. (Then Steve walks out. Alan turns to Monica.) Well what do you think of a hockey game?

Monica: I don’t know. I haven’t ever gone to one.

Alan laughing: Then this is going to be a night you won’t ever forget.

Monica giggling: I have heard that before.

Alan laughing at the double meaning: Very funny.

Monica still giggling: Well I have heard that before and don’t recall you ever being wrong.

Alan: Where you are concerned I am not usually wrong now am I?

Monica: I guess not.

Alan: Well what shall we do before the game?

Monica: Did you have something in mind?

Alan hesitating: Maybe we could get ready and head into LA and see what looks interesting along the way.

Monica: Ok.

About 10 am they get started. They drive down the coast and it is a beautiful drive. They get to Santa Monica and decide to stop and take a walk on the pier. They park and walk on the pier and looking slowly down the pier looking into the water just watching the waves roll in. They walk to the end and stand for a while silently staring out to sea. The wind is blowing and it is actually a little chilly.

Alan taking Monica’s hand: Come on let’s go it is cold out here.

Monica looking at him and smiling: You’re right I am cold.

Alan rubbing her hand with his to warm it: I can feel that.

Monica laughing: You know me I get just the slightest bit cold and my hands turn to ice.

Alan still holding her hand in his: I remember and I remember it as more than just hands. I distinctly remember cold feet touching me every night every winter.

Monica laughing: Oh yeah I remember and I remember thanking you for keeping me warm too!

Alan with a sparkle in his eye: And it was well worth every freezing touch too.

Monica looking into Alan’s eyes: Thank-you.

Alan: For what keeping you warm?

Monica: Well for that too but just for being you.

Alan: I want you to know I do love you.

Monica: I love you too.

Alan: Let’s go your hands are still cold.

Monica: Ok.

They start to walk back down the pier and they get near the end when instead of leaving Alan pulls Monica toward the rides.

Monica: Where are we going?

Alan: To the Ferris wheel.

Monica: Why?

Alan: Maybe the view will be better from up there.

Monica skeptical: Sure it will.

Alan: Ok maybe not but come with me anyway? Besides I will still hold your hands and try to warm them up while we ride.

Monica smiling: umm, let’s go.

They ride the Ferris wheel and laugh at how different things are here than back at home. As the ride ends they get off and decide to walk on the beach before they go. Walking along the beach they see early surfers and kids playing in the waves. Everyone is having fun including them. The day passes quickly and they leave decide they have to leave and find some food before going to the game. They stop at a seafood place and have a really nice meal. When they have finished eating they decide they need to go since they are not quite sure where exactly the Staple Center is. They drive a bit and don’t have any trouble finding the center. They go in and find their seats, which are center ice down by the glass.

Alan: Wow these are great seats.

Monica: Ok I guess I will have to take your word for that. Alan, am I going to like this game?

Alan laughing at her question: I think so. Let’s just say we don’t have anything on a good hockey fight.

Monica: Oh really?

Alan: Just wait and see, if there is a good fight tonight you will see exactly what I mean.

Monica: Does that mean this place could come crashing down on us?

Alan laughing: Let’s hope not this is a new building and I didn’t do any of the construction or destruction as the case may be.

Monica laughing: Just checking since it has been a long time since you tried to kill me.

Alan: Is that a complaint?

Monica giggling: No I don’t miss you stalking me with murderous intentions.

Alan: Let’s try not to give each other reason to have murderous intentions again. Ok?

Monica: Yeah I think we will both be happier not to mention safer.

Alan: Do you want anything? I think I want to go get a drink and a nachos or something.

Monica: We just ate.

Alan laughing: I know but there are stadium traditions and that means food and drinks are a must.

Monica: Ok lets go.

They come back a bit later, just as the player introductions are finishing, with an assortment of snacks from hot pretzels to nachos.

Alan: Quick sit down they are about to face off.

They watch the game for a few minutes when one of the LA kings players gets checked into the boards by one of the wings players right in front of where they are sitting. The smack into the glass sort of scares Monica, Alan laughs at her reaction. The Red Wings score the first goal and a few minutes later a second one. Monica and Alan are both enjoying the game and stealing glances at the other. The third period is just about to start and the lights go out. The only lights in the entire place are from the commentators and television camera up high. The place is strangely dark. Alan puts his arm around Monica and she snuggles into Alan’s chest.

Monica smiling: I am going to guess this is not normal for the lights to go out like this.

Alan laughing: Good guess Dr. Quartermaine. The lights are absolutely supposed to stay on.

Monica: Not bad for a novice huh?

Alan still laughing: You must have had a good teacher.

Monica looking into Alan’s eyes: I guess I did.

Over 20 minutes later the lights come on and the game starts again. The third period is even more exciting than the last two and at the end the Red Wings score goal number 3 and the game ends a minute later. Alan and Monica gather up their stuff and join the crowd leaving the building.

Alan puts his arm around Monica as they walk toward the exit: Well what did you think of your first hockey game?

Monica: It was fun (pause) because I was with you.

Alan: Not exactly our normal night out.

Monica laughing: No definitely not but maybe that is part of the reason it was so much fun.

Alan semi-serious: We can’t do something new every day. Honestly, we will run out of new and exciting things fast.

Monica giggling: I know but doing something different every once in a while would be a nice change.

Alan as he opens Monica’s door: I think maybe you are right. We really do need to take time for just us.

Monica turns to face Alan as he gets into the car: Maybe we need to just take at least one weekend a month just for us. Get away from that crazy house and just spent time just the two of us.

Alan as he pulls Monica into a gentle kiss: That sounds like a plan.

Monica responds to Alan’s kiss by running her hand up his chest and kissing his neck and placing gentle kisses upward toward his lips. When Monica’s lips finally reach Alan’s he returns the kiss with considerable force and passion. Alan’s hands start caressing Monica’s back as their kiss continues while each allow their hands to explore the other. When they finally break their kiss they are both breathless.

Alan: I think we should get out of here.

Monica: You are right but you know the hotel is going to take us about 2 hours to get to.

Alan: Maybe that is not all bad it will give us a chance to talk where we might normally have wound up in bed. Don’t get me wrong I would like nothing more than to take you to bed right now but if we are going to try truth and honestly maybe this is the perfect opportunity.

Monica: Wow, maybe we are both learning something here.

Alan: I was worried about you after you just left.

Monica: I left you a note. I didn’t know what else to do. I didn’t want to fight with you and I knew that if I stayed we were going to yell and scream at each other then worse when we stopped yelling, the silent treatment. And besides I couldn’t stand to see you with Rae so I left.

Alan sadly: I’m sorry. I know I should have told you but I knew you would blow up and start screaming and I did not want your wrath unleashed on Rae either.

Monica: Well if she stayed away from you.

Alan interrupting: Monica, Rae and I are friends now and nothing more so you have no reason to feel threatened by her.

Monica smiling: Sorry old habits die-hard. I am working on trusting you more and over reacting less.

Alan shocked by Monica’s honestly: I will try to trust our love enough to tell you the truth. Maybe I should try not putting you into situations that will cause you to want to get jealous in the first place.

Monica giggling: Maybe I should try the same.

Alan: Did you have an affair with Kyle to get even with me for my affair with Rae?

Monica: If we were just having matching affairs you would still be due a few. But no. An affair was not why I came here. I came here to sort out my feelings. My old insecurities of not being loved or being abandoned are obviously never going to go completely away and those are not your fault. I’m sorry I am trying.

Alan interrupting: I love you faults and all and we can get through this together. We just need to remember to turn to each other and trust our love.

Monica: Easy to say hard for us to do.

Alan: I know but we are worth saving.

Monica: Your right about that.

As they drive along quietly, in the background the radio is playing "Love Remains" by Colin Raye.

Alan as the song ends "hope lives on and love remains" are the final words sung: Monica, we can get past anything as long as we never let go of each other.

Monica: I hope you are right. You know our love for each other has never been a question but do you really believe we can respect each other enough to try the trust and truth for a change?

Alan pulls the car over: Yes. Do you?

Monica: Yes or I never would have told you about Kyle and what happened here. I could have lied just like always.

Alan: I am not going to lie to you the truth hurt but I was actually relieved it was only an affair and not that you were leaving me again.

Monica giggling: Funny but I don’t ever recall you the least bit relieved at any of my affairs before. I remember rage, yelling, even trying to kill me but relief? You must be mellowing with age or plotting my demise now.

Alan: I don’t think I was ever as scared that I might actually loose you. And just for the record I don’t want to live not one more day without you so no I am not plotting your demise. I have other intentions for you when we get home but killing you isn’t in the plans.

Monica mock relief: I am awfully glad to hear that. And just what might those plans for me be Dr. Quartermaine?

Alan smiling as he takes her hand: You will just have to wait and see.

Monica giggling: Now you know I am not patient.

Alan laughing: I have noticed that once or twice before my darling.

Monica still giggling: Maybe I should I work on that too.

Alan: No I think your lack of patience in that particular area is perfect.

Monica takes her hand up to Alan’s cheek and caresses it as she whispers: God, I love you.

Alan pulls Monica toward him and gently places a kiss on her lips and whispers back: I love you too. Now let’s get going or we will never get back.

Monica takes hold of Alan’s hand and just holds it tightly: Ok let’s go.

They continue their drive that takes another half-hour before they get finally get back to the hotel. Alan and Monica walk hand in hand up to the room both a little nervous about loosing the connections they have make today. They enter the room Alan turns on some music and Monica sits down on the couch. The song "Nobody Knows" by Kevin Sharp is playing. Alan walks over to Monica extends his hand to her.

Alan: Dance with me.

Monica reaching for his hand: My pleasure.

They dance right through several songs. They go from snuggled up close to pulling back just enough to search the others eyes then back to snuggled up close. The song "Then Again" by Alabama is playing as Alan pulls back searches Monica’s eyes and moves in to kiss her gently. Monica returns the kiss and feels her knees weaken. Alan sensing the change in Monica backs her to the couch where they continue to kiss and allow their hands to start explore each other. Their kissing and caressing intensifying and they begin to undress each other kissing each bit of skin as they expose it. Alan stops and looks into Monica’s eyes, he sees the love in her eyes a deep love that she sees he returns for her, as he picks her up and carries her to the bed where they finishing undressing each other and passionately reconnect to each other.

In the afterglow, Monica is laying with her head on Alan’s chest her hand gently moving along Alan’s chest her leg up on his leg; Alan’s hand is gently caressing Monica’s arm and shoulder.

Monica smiling looking into Alan’s eyes: Do I need to ask?

Alan gazing back at Monica: No. Do I?

Monica maintaining the look: Absolutely not, you are wonderful.

Alan moving his hand to caress her cheek with his thumb and gently pulling her closer: So are you.

They join in a mutual kiss, which turns quickly to passion once again. They make love until the wee hours of the morning when they fall asleep holding on tightly to each other. A few hours later the sun is streaming into the room as Monica and Alan are still tightly entwined, Alan stirs which awakens Monica. Monica reacts to being awakened by placing sleepy, lazy kisses up Alan’s neck as she reaches his mouth he is wide-awake and returns her kisses. They spend the next few hours joined together in bed both unwilling to leave the room and join the rest of world quite yet. Several hours later and both of them starving they shower and head downstairs to get something to eat. They eat quickly from the buffet and decided to take a walk on the beach. They walk arm in arm down the beach enjoying the peace and tranquility of having no secrets left between them. They spend the day swimming and laying in the sun just enjoying spending the day together. That evening Steve calls and they decide to meet him and his wife, Holly, for dinner at a restaurant nearby. At the restaurant the four have a nice meal where they talk about their careers and the hockey game. After dinner they dance a couple times and make their excuses and part ways. Back at the hotel.

Alan as he pulls Monica into a hug: I had fun today.

Monica gently kissing Alan’s neck: Me too.

Alan as he turns Monica around and kisses the back of her neck while unzipping the back of her dress: What shall we do with ourselves now that we are alone at last again?

Monica turning back to Alan as she allows the dress to be slipped off and tossed aside: I am sure we can come up with something.

Alan picks up Monica and carries her to the bed as kisses him and strips him of his shirt and tie on the short walk. Alan gently lays Monica on the bed and she pulls him down with her never breaking the kiss. The kiss intensifies and Monica finally frees Alan of his pants, and tosses them across the room where they land in a heap, and they continue to express their deep feelings without speaking a word. In the afterglow, both have fallen asleep holding on tightly to each other both with smiles on their faces. Both sleep peacefully until morning where they both awaken early.

Alan as he kisses Monica’s neck: I have an idea of something we can do today.

Monica as she moves to kiss Alan: Wonder just what that might be Dr. Quartermaine.

Alan mischievously: Not anything you will guess.

Monica pulling back a bit and looking into Alan’s eyes she sees pure mischief: What?

Alan as he pulls her to the shower: Come on you will have to wait and see.

Monica giggling: You know I am not patient.

Alan: Well today you need to be for just a little while.

They quickly shower and get dressed in shorts and head off. They drive for a while until Monica sees signs for Six Flags.

Monica: Are we really going to Six Flags?

Alan: Yup. What do you think?

Monica giggling: It sounds like fun to me. Guess you took me seriously when I said we should do something new or different at least once a month huh?

Alan: Guess I did. Actually Steve told me this was here and if we had time we should come. I thought it sounded like fun and it was something new so here we are.

Monica smiling: I am so glad we found a way back to each other again.

Alan: I can’t imagine life any other way.

They spend the day riding the roller coasters and holding only each other’s hand as they take those steep plunges, rolls, and fast turns. The day flies by and night has fallen as they decide to take one last ride on the roller coaster in the dark. They are twisted, turned, and tossed around their seats laughing and never letting go of the other’s hand having so much fun they never want it to end.

Alan sadly: Well Cinderella it is nearly midnight.

Monica eyes twinkling: Well my Prince Charming as long as I am going home with you I don’t care about anything else.

Alan laughing: Well Cinderella you are stuck with me. Are you ready?

Monica pulling Alan’s face down to hers as she gently kisses him: Ready.

They walk to the car as the park is shutting down for the night. They drive back to the hotel talking about how much fun they had at the park today.

Alan: Monica eventually we have to go back home.

Monica: I know. I was just enjoying spending time just you and I before we go home and have to deal with everything there.

Alan: Do you mean my daughter or do you mean Rae?

Monica: Both I guess. It isn’t that I don’t trust you I just don’t want any of that friction to get in between us again.

Alan: There doesn’t need to be any friction. Rae is part of my past and my feeling for her are purely friendship now. Eve is my daughter and that doesn’t change anything between us. You already know Eve and respect her as a doctor. Actually Eve’s skills as a doctor sort of remind me of you.

Monica looking over at Alan: I am going to say that is a compliment meant for Eve and I both. And thank-you.

Alan: You are both so driven to be the best and besides she has a little temper that will make family meal time with father amusing between you, Em, and Eve he will never know what hit him.

Monica laughing: It sounds so easy when you say it like that.

Alan: Let’s just trust each other and maybe it will be just that easy.

Monica reaching for Alan’s hand: As long as I have you to hold onto I can do anything.

Alan squeezing Monica’s hand: You can do anything no matter what. You are the strongest, most intelligent woman I have ever known not to mention loved.

Monica smiling: You always know just the right things to say.

Alan returning the smile: So do you.

Monica: So when do you want to go home?

Alan: You tell me when you are ready and that is when we will go.

Monica: Wow a lot sure has changed in a short time.

Alan: Just remember trust, respect, and love we don’t need anything else.

Monica: Right. I am ready to go home any time. (Reconsidering for a moment) How about tomorrow?

Alan: Great idea since I can think my a lot better ways to spend the night than flying home.

Monica giggling as they pull into a parking place at the hotel: Show me.

Alan as he gets out and quickly gets Monica’s door: I would love to.

Monica leans into Alan and kisses him then breaks the kiss and runs for the elevator: Race ya.

Alan yelling after her as he takes off for the elevator: Some things never change.

Monica as she beats him to the elevator: I win!

Alan pulls Monica into him as his lips are almost touching hers: And the winner gets a kiss from the looser!

Monica: Lucky winner.

Alan: Lucky looser too!

They spend the elevator ride kissing and the rest of the night happily showing each other the depth of their love and commitment to each other.

The next morning they take the jet back to Port Charles where begin their new lives respecting, trusting, and still above all else loving each other.
