TRYING TO MAKE THE SENSE OF THIS:
In a letter from my G-Aunt Jane Shanks before she passed away she states that my 2nd G-grandfather Joseph C. Cannon had a 1/2 brother. I belive she may have confused his place in the family and that if there was a connection it would be that Joseph C. Cannon's father, James Cannon would be a son of Samuel James Cannon and his wife Mary Porteus. Joseph Gurney Cannon, who was b. 5/7/1836 d. 11/12/1926 of Guilford NC. Joseph Gurney was the s/o Horace G. or F. (Franklin) Cannon and Gulielma Hollingsworth d. 4/15/1868 (English). Horace, the youngest of 5/6 children, was left orphaned after the death of their parents both at the age of 32. Raised by his oldest sister, Horace was taken in and raised by two quaker woman.
To date, I do not find a connection with this Cannon line. Although, I'm not willing to dismiss the claim my G-Aunt Jane makes regarding some connection. I would be happy to share the results for any who are interested if that time ever comes. The letter from Aunt Jane Shanks talks about many family members. There is only a brief comment regarding Joseph Gurney.
