Currents...
A National competition winner - Hangs in the Library of Congress

Ocean waters, so cool upon my skin,
as I lay thinking of this world I'm in.
This place known simply as the planet earth,
this place where my life began at birth.
I travel from moment to moment in time,
running blind finding no reason in life's rhyme.
Feeling tethered, sometimes cruelly bound,
I'm wondering in words without uttering a sound...

Why does so much block my way?
Who have I wronged, what did I say?
Happiness is supposedly an easy thing,
yet in darkness is the only time my heart seems to sing.
In self-pity I haven't cast myself away,
rather looking for a reason or an answer to the words I did pray.
I believe we all learn from our past pain,
but I can no longer reach to win nor gain...

Oh how cool the water feels on me,
this place I love, my lady the sea.
Her waves are so powerfully strong;
their crashing is like that of a soothing song.
Her waters seem calm yet there be dangers from the surface below,
where only the strong survive and the weak go.
Once long ago I knew it all,
I was strong and knew I could never fall.
Oh how times have changed so fast,
loosing this feeling of times past.
My waves not able to crash against the sand,
feeling much to tired to even stand...

So here upon her wake I lay,
a voice of welcome to her I say.
Her beauty has always been there;
now, lovingly she consumes my air.
I hear her waves crash like thunder,
as I feel my flesh go slowly under.
Calm as the current makes no sound,
home eternal I have found.
There be no struggle nor fight, it goes peacefully dark,
lost forever in her reflecting light...

Dragons Breath
This is in prologue of Book One of the Green Dragon Series,
"Birth of a Legend"

Thy Dragons breath warms myne world, for there be no sun, nor moon,
here, where only dreams heighten myne delight…

Consumed in its green myst I shall stay, longing for its warmth, this
myst, creating its glow, here alone, myne world shines bright…

Pegasus shall gallop through thy skies of heaven, ‘tis of thyne form I
wish to take myne freedom flight and ride…

Sheltered by myne cool blanket of slumbered night, riding as one so
free, where only in memories past tears hide…

Reach to thyne heavens beyond thy clouds, find thyne dreams touched by
wood nymphs and thy gracefully pure unicorn…

These magical creatures give all, yet few so often see, for it be
between fantasy and reality of life & dreams they remain torn…

Death Tone
A song I wrote - copyright 1990

Outside 12 year olds are carrying machine guns
They write the laws; they used to be our sons
Rushing into battle not knowing the score
One more falls dead, we’ve seen it all before

Chorus:

Look down your street, it’s a war zone
Children run in a pact, yet alone
What was once a place to roam
Has taken on a death tone

Verse:

Listen to the screams, the song they sing
Hear the shot’s blast, leaving a silent ring
Drive by shootings and another starts to die
See what I’ve seen, it’s no lie
They shoot to kill, lost in their own fate
Watch the blood spill, crying it’s too late
He rushed into battle, not knowing the score
Now dead, yeah we’ve seen it all before

Repeat Chorus:

The Shadows

In the shadows of the night, the heart whispers words of wonder,
heightened in the flames of the candlelight...

Thoughts sweep across in fantasy, tempting ones mind,
where the world becomes lost from reality...

Such a sweet sweet place, where there be no sorrows,
just the softness of a shadowed familiar face...

Take Heed to Hallows Eve

It be a night where souls lost come back from thy emptiness
from whence thyne hide...

To dwell once more with those of thy living thyne reluctantly left behind...

For in thy night thyne be welcomed home lest we, ourselves, be shied...

This be thy night of rejoining, free from thy dreams lost we doth find...

So open yee windows, let thy shadows in as thyne have so earnestly cried...

Release those lost spirits from thy bonds of death and life; set free thyne bind...

For in thy hours of witching thyne live but once more,
then return to where thyne died...

Allow them to run with Chaos but one night more, for remember one day we all shall pass and thou may wish another might be so kind....

Happy Halloween! Magically, Merlina-Rene' 10/12/99

For the Love of my Parents

Through the heavens fly’s the winged horse,
holding only our sweet memories of our heart
free of those days of regrets and remorse

So come and fly the heavens with me
Let the child care now for the parent
Leave behind the days toil, and be free

Nearing the All Hallows Eve, I be asked…

Who be the headless horseman?

He be the Knight of darkness, one of no honor,
as he travels thy mortal planes

Searching for redemption that he shalt never find,
in his rage he strikes out...

Alas his violence cannot harm the pure of heart,
only those who question their own worthiness,
be it in heart, mind, or soul....

There be the fear he brings to haunt mortals
tearing from them what he once bestowed so easily within his rein...
and cries out to grasp this helm again....

So beware simple mortals, look about, and then look within….
where doth thou see thy Headless Horseman?

A Dream I have had
as long as I can remember..

I wake in a meadow during the first days of spring.
I am lying on the dew moistened grass in a flowing yet simple dress.
Pollen flows heavy in the whispering breeze,
sharing sweet scents, sparkling in the daylight.
There is a fawn laying near me, birds are singing.
I stretch, and the fawn nuzzles me as I sit up to look about
to these lands gifted by the gods.

It is in the medieval age, and in this dream,
I have just awoken from a dream...
a dream where I meet the one man that would be all that I have searched for, leaving its gentle memory caressing my mind.

Suddenly the birds start to fly
and the small creatures scurry to thier hiding places.
They've been startled by the coming of a large steed,
yet the fawn remains at my side, serene.

Upon the steed is an armor clad knight.
He rides toward me with the sun at his back, which alters my sight
Without a word his steed halts inches in front of me and he dismounts.
Slowly he walks toward me.
He kneels before me,
yet I still cannot see his face due to the glare of the sun.

He reaches out and gently strokes my cheek.
I am breathless...

Uncontrollably a single tear falls, trickling down my cheek. I stare,
trying to make out the face, but alas, I cannot.

He hands me a rare long stemmed single black rose...

I take it and look down to the soft petals of this magical flower and ask him...
"Be you the one?"

He simply says, "Yes"....

My heart fills with warmth.
I knew he would find me, through the ages,
through the darkness, through the dreams.
I knew naught the face, but I shall know this heart...
for he be the other half of me...

A Dream I have had as long as I can remember....
