If Only
If only, if only I hadn’t done that.
I wish that I could just take it
all back.
I shouldn’t have done it, I realize
that now.
I’d take it all back if I only
knew how.
It’s over and done with, it’s finished,
it’s ended.
I wish I could fix it, I wish it
was mended.
But it’s all said and done.
The race has been run.
Something was lost and nobody won.
I wish that I could, if only you
would.
I know that I didn’t, do you think
that you should?
If you don’t know the answer, just
give it a guess.
If the answer is wrong, I’ll not
think you less.
It’s not True or False, or multiple
choice.
You can give me an answer by
mail or by voice.
So give it great thought, muddle
it through.
I’ll await a reply, uniquely from
you.
