A poem by Rae Ann Crabtree
In a dream Joseph learned of the handmaid
The lord chose to bear his son.
And he knew he too was chosen
To raise the Only Begotten One.

So Joseph worried for his sweet Mary
So young and great with child
When the Roman Ruler’s decree
Forced them to travel awhile

Back to their father’s city
To be taxed and counted too
Like cattle out to pasture
Because they both were Jews.

Not long after reaching Bethlehem
Mary gave birth to her first born babe
Wrapped him in swaddling clothers
In a manger sleeping he laid.

Our Savior, our Lord, our King of Kings
Now thy earthly life begins
Because there was none to give room
For them this night in the inns.
