A poem by Rae Ann Crabtree
I went to the Humane Society
And saw a small pitiful dog.
She was dirty, beaten and scared
And would not come when I called.

It was her last day of life,
If no one took her home.
So I told myself I would
To put some meat on her bones.

I gave her food and warmth and love,
Named her Rosa and bought a red leash.
It wasn’t long before her fears were gone,
And our companionship increased.

Rosa waits for me to come home,
From work or church or grocery store.
She loves car rides and sits by my side
And plays with me on the floor.

Rosa was old when I got her,
but becomes younger each day.
I love to watch her roll in the grass,
explore, have fun and play.

No one will ever know
The happiness she has brought.
But the thing I love the most…
Is the buckteeth smile she’s got.
