The CS That Was Quake
[ 3:38 PM | Mavik

If you have checked out Kraken's homepage, we would have known that Kraken will be battling Backroom in both quake and counter strike. Well due to bad communication Kraken didn't know that they were supposed to play quake. Anyway I managed to get SENg and Cruz to team up with me and have a 3v3 match with Backroom. Backroom's representatives were RaPtor, Monkey and Whir. The map, DM7 or also known as the Temple Of Retribution. Backroom got off to an early start and lead all the way but thanks to low morale I have forgotten the score. I think Backroom lead by around 40 over points. In the other corner, the Kraken CS team was getting ready to challenge Backroom hoping to defeat them the way they whacked us in quake. The matched was played in a way that the first team to reach 20 would win the match. Kraken was using Terrorrist while Backroom was using Counter Terrorist and the map used was de_dust. It was a one sided battle and the one side that was winning was Backroom. Pure thrashing. Backroom thrashed the hell out of Kraken with Whir getting ungodly amount of frags. Well that will teach us not to be so conceited and be a little more humble. gg Bkrm!

Timber Leaves 9

Okay this piece of news is seriously laid back. Anyway just a piece of info that Timber has now joined clan Unreal in the UK. Timber was the guy who actually beat Makaveli so he is a very talented player. Who knows what he will be doing now.
Test Your Speed

Got this piece of news from Epicenter. This site tests your speed of your connection. Well I just tested mine and the results was lame! I could only connect at 2.1kilobytes per sec while my normal connection is at 17.4kbps. Talk about slow. Anyway you can always check yours out here.
Warzone League Updates

Just a few updates from the ongoing Counter Strike League Clan Ghost beat Clan WPGS (We Play Ghey Strike) Clan SI (2) beat Omaha 1 (walkover) The story about this match was that Omaha had a player from Vendetta to play with them but players from SI (Sanctioned Insanity) didn't approve of it. The Judge calls a meeting with the SI players and said it was up to them to decide whether a walkoever or a postpone would be done. So democraticly a vote was done. The verdict 3-2 in favour of the walkoever. Heard that those dudes from Omaha 1 were quite pissed.

The download from v7.1 to v1.0 is at a whoping 23mb but I guess you crazy players out there wouldn't mind waiting for the download. Other changes include 3 new weapons which are the H&K UMP .45, FN Five-Seven, and SIG SG-550. For those who wanna download the entire software have a nice and long wait cause it is 82megs. Anyway happy fragging you fraggers! For more info just click here.
1.17 vs 1.25

The verdict has been given. Version 1.17 for Quake 3 Arena will be used for CPL Babbages even though if the full version for 1.25 would be released before the tourney. According to Mike Wardell, he says that players should be given enough time to test and get used to any new versions therefore they decided that version 1.17 would be used only.

Blue in the blues?

Blue and a couple of Clan 9 EU are lacking of sponsors to enter the upcoming Babbages Tourney. Word is that they are looking of one so that they can compete in the tourney. Looks like Blue is not alone cause others like Doomer and Xenon are in the same dilema.

Looks like Clan Free Frags has defeated Clan Astro in a friendly match. The scores were 21-18. It seems to be a very close match. Maybe Clan Free Frags can have a friendly with our neighbourhood clans like S.I (Sanctioned Insanity), GFN (Good For Nothing) or Kraken. Congrats to Free Frags!
Blood Run? Bah!

Hmm... 'twas an idle hour ago when I decided to give ztn3dm1 another go. g_gametype 1 and whoa - a Quad! Is the CPL version different? I can't seem to connect to their ftp server.
Anyway, I still can't see what all this hype about Uusvali and his maps are all about. Hell, the only thing it brings is a change of environment, nothing breathtaking or revolutionary here - id's maps are still waay better, and really don't deserve the bashing they have been receiving so far. I didn't like dm13 but it's still prettier, if you talk about looks.
Blood Run's 3 armours are rather easy to control and within a quick run of each other - dm13's armours were a little (hah) harder to sweep. I didn't bother much with the MH though, being the lazy ass, besides I was forced to playtest it against Grunt 5.
Overall, I feel that there are more hiding spots available compared to dm13 and it won't be too hard to run away when you're in trouble. It's kinda big and this could help those pesky railgun pussies who shoot from way across the other end of the few available halls.
My verdict? Yuck.

Reporting the Maxis Hotlink Concert
[ 4:34 PM | Nael

]
Since the page is full of non-Quake related news already, I thought I might as well add this in (slow news day as usual).
I was at the recent Maxis Hotlink/Positive Tone concert held at the Sungei Wang Plaza rooftop last Saturday. It blasted off with Naked Breed at 4 pm and rocked until midnight, with Poetic Ammo to close the show. Jungle Jerry must have caught himself in a tangle.
It saw an heart-pounding return of hard-rocking IntoXicated, who managed to impress even the most cynical of detractors and got the crowd into the air (literally) after a slow performance by 28 Days. Even Spunky Funggy's manager was "very impressed with (their) excellent performance" while some more ignorant producers offered them contracts.
The other highlights included a generic but always popular Lo and a great show by Ferhad.
If you missed the free concert you had better been doing something great with your time on Saturday, or you can start kicking yourselves now for those misspent hours. At worst, it was a fresh change from the cacophony of CS.

Shops 2000

It is now the year 2000. Shops has changed alot. Firstly from my view, I think that many video shops has changed, more like the workers and the customers. Usually last time we would see shy customers trying to borrow porn shows from shops. But just recently when I was just browsing through the directory in the shop, a good friend of the owner came in the shop and greeted the owner. The next thing I know, the good friend did a little chatting and suddenly said, "wah this show stim arrr? When watch can sperm come out wan arr?". The shopkeeper then replies, "Of course not, this one even better. What race you want?". I can leave the rest up to your imagination.
CPL Players

The list of players entering the upcoming Babbages is already up. With over 500 players who has signed up already more and more keeps pouring in. The exact amount is 580 players. You can check out the list here. But the more known players which are likely to perform in this tourney are like Lakerman, Zero4, Clan 9 players and many more especially those from team DM players. Who do you think will win the event? Remember, this time it will be 1v1 all the way and the double elimination only starts when there are 64 players left. I thought I saw Guitarmans nick on the list.

CPL Age Limit
[ 4:56 PM | Mavik

]
The upcoming CPL event in Germany this December will be imposing on their new ruling about age limit. The limit, 18 years and above. I know this ruling has been up for quite some time but to actually put it to some use is a different matter entirely. Well looks like we have to learn to look older now when we participate in any events both quake and counter strike.

Car Of the Century

Want to have a look at the car of the century? Or should I just make you all guess what it is. No, it doesn't come from Mercedes or BMW. This car was given the honour of Car of the Century (COTC) and receiving the award in December 1999. Well can't you all think of something? No its not the Evo VI by Mitsubishi. There are over 15 million of this car and the 15th million is kept somewhere safe. Check out the car here.

Clan Sanctioned Insanity team 2 drew with PLAM (Play Like A Man) and beaten Clan Kraken just recently. Well Kraken didn't leave empty handed as they beat NBR on Wednesday gaining a total of 4 points this week. So far I have to try to get the table of the total 20 teams and where each team is standing. So far only clans like NBTD and a few others are unbeaten. Today's matchup will be Ghost against Omaha Team 2.
Babbage's CPL Rules Are Out!

The official tournament rules are now available for the next biggest CPL event at http://registration.thecpl.com/babbages/?page=rules
Among the more interesting news is that DM13 has been removed from the map rotation. In its place is Ztn3DM1, making the four maps to be played Q3Tourney2, Q3Tourney4, Q3DM6[tmp] and Ztn3DM1. It's going to be a wholly 1 on 1 affair (no FFA prelims) and double elim will start with the final 64.
The CPL will also still be sticking with ver 1.17 for this one.
I think some of you might want to download Sten Uusvali's Ztn3DM1.

Everglideness
[ 6:59 PM | Mavik
]
Is your Everglide dirty or is it not as smooth as before anymore? Well I sort of found a way to make your Everglide smooth again. Firstly it would be an advantage if you own a guitar, secondly it would be a better advantage if you really like to keep your guitar in tip top condition. All you need is guitar polish. Just recently I tried that on my everglide and it seemed to work. Now my everglide is quite smooth but not that smooth, but still it works well enough for me.
