Battle Of Dune

If you recently checked your Red Alert CD for demos you might find an interesting preview of this game, Emperor:The Battle for Dune. After seeing how Dune 2000 was a disaster to most gamers, this game shows some promise with intense graphics and gameplay. Looking at these screenshots I guess that you would need a pretty powerfull computer to play it with satisfaction. Anyway the official site for this game is already up.

Diablo 2 Expansion

Here's the trailer for the upcoming Diablo 2 Expansion. It will be featured at the 2000 European Computer Trade Show. The trailer is about Baal trying to corrupt the worldstone that actually protects the mortal realm from the forces of Hell. Well if you want it in high resolution, you have to wait quite some time as the trailer would be 29.2MB or you can check out the low resolution trailer at only 11.5MB.
Get them here.

Starship Troopers

I finally got the game just a few days ago thinking that I can enjoy my breaks from study with this new game. Looks like I am wrong again. My damn computer does it all again. Anyway I can't really give it a thumbs up since the gameplay is like most RTS plus added features. I still can't wait to fully try out the game.

Babbage's CPL Cash Prize Distribution

Cash prize distribution for the upcoming Babbage's $100,000 event has been announced! Although the total amount of cash involved is similar to that found at the Razer/CPL, it will be streamed further down the line, giving the eventual champion a less attractive reason to perform well with a reward of only $25,000. This still beats the eventual CS champs who will receive the maximum gross winnings of a measly $1,000 individually, tho'.

Quake 3 Arena, 1 on 1:

1st $25,000
2nd $15,000
3rd $10,000
4th $8000
5th $6000
6th $5000
7th $4000
8th $3000
9-12th $1000 (4000)
13-16th $800 (3200)
17-24th $500 (4000)
25-32nd $400 (3200)
33-64th $300 (9600)

Total $100,000

Quake 3 Arena, All Female 1 on 1:

1st $3000
2nd $2000
3rd $1000
4th $500
5th $400
6th $300
7th $200
8th $100

Total $7,500

Half Life Counter-Strike (sponsored by Razer):

1st $5,000
2nd $3,000
3rd $2,000
4th $1,000
5-6th $700 (1400)
7-8th $500 (1000)
9-12th $400 (1600)

Total $15,000 (Don't forget to divide this among the individual team members)

Side note: Isn't ironic that the Razer Boomslang's technical l33tness cannot be utilized by CS in the first place? Goes to show how suckered some people can get.

Tourney Canceled!

The TMnet online Counter Strike tournament has been canceled. For all those clans who play online and are participating in this tourney, don't worry because there will be another tournament held on the 12th of November at KL Plaza in conjunction with the HITZ TMnet Cybercast Tour. The drawbacks about this tourney is that only 8 teams will be allowed to participate. For more info about the tournament, check it out here.

Also there will be performances by groups like Butterfingers and LO during the Cybercast Tour plus the launch of Hitz FM's new website.

Final Weapon

H&K UMP .45 will be the final new weapon for Counter Strike. You can view some screenies of the weapon here. Don't forget to aim for the head! With upcoming events especially the Babbages in December, most likely the full version of Counter Strike should be out by then...hopefully.

CS Bashing?

Just came off reading some columns at XSR and found a couple of unpolished gems.

In Absurdity of Schemed Gameplay Onslaught mentioned:

What can be said about gameplay then, if anything? Well, there are two very simple concepts to this. Realism and unrealism. The first one of the two is destined to slow the game and benefit the coward, while the other one is unlimited and undefined, thus a perfect platform for creating great gameplay!
In a later article, The ultimate FPS-Game: General aspects he furthers his thoughts with:

Realism: Take a look at warfare in the real world. See it from the infantry's point of view. They are basicly cannon-fodder. When they engage in an onslaught, they die. Seen from their point of view, defensive strategies are preferable to offensive ones. In a FPS-game, you are the single soldier, and you want to win. If you engage in onslaught, you die, if you wait, your opponent might die instead. What all of this comes down to is; Why should anyone attack? The only way to bring action in to the game is by constructing intricate objectives that must be achieved in a certain time, and furthermore construct the maps in such a way that a single point is impossible to defend from all directions. Even with these highly artificial constructions, the defensive strategies are still superior to the offensive ones. Thus, realism is a very limited concept, which only artificially can be brought from no gameplay to slow gameplay. In other words, simple rules like getting as many frags as possible are not an alternative.
This might explain to some befuddled Quakers why CS IS a GAY GAME after all.

Campers.

Happy birthday mom

For being born on the 31st of October, she's the original witch. And at times, with a capital B. But she's still my mom, and I've got posting rights here, so I'm gonna take the opportunity to say this...

Happy 42nd Birthday, KeiL's_Mom !!

You'll thank me for this ...

Reflex Tester

Was aimlessly surfing when I came across a pretty futile link at CHUS.

It's a nifty little Reflex Tester! My best time is 0.16 seconds so far, although I average 0.22. Some of the Americans have 0.11 with "proof" while others claim to be hitting 0.06!

What's your best time? Is this going to forever change the outlook of your railgun-toting career?

The Arena: a Novel

iD software's Anna Kang organized a competition quite a while ago, about making something creative related to Quake 3. Rowan "Sumaleth" Crawford took the prize: a full chess set with the characters from Doom and Quake. He wrote a Quake 3 novel. A rather long read!

This only serves to strengthen my point about how cohesive the Quake community can be as compared to...

The Claw

Looking like some April Fool's joke, here's a new controller (mentioned before some time ago in XSR) that could do just the trick for those of you who find the normal kb+mouse setup a little confusing. A new 9-button mouse-like device is in town. Behold, the CLAW!

Number 4

What is number 4? In cantonese it is pronounced as 'sei' which has the meaning of number 4 and also die. Well that is happened today. Kraken got its 4th walkover. This time Omaha team 2 didn't appear so the game was considered a walkoever. 4th time, what a waste of time for me to go there without playing anything plus I have finals coming so soon. Anyway yesterday Alien beat Omaha 2 by just a single win while NBTD beat OG and Ghost respectively. The match between Ghost and NBTD was very close indeed and the score difference is just by 1 game. The match could have been a draw if one of the Ghost didn't peek his head from his hiding place. Its all about he said she said bullshit!

Quake vs CS

Fly posted this link in one of the comment threads and I thought it was good enough to warrant a larger audience. Courtesy of Quaker's Compendium, here's a Quake vs CS war:

http://www.htgk.com.sg/quake/fps_wars.html

I actually wrote a long article about this and thought of posting it up, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Whatever; while Quake will always be the Nirvana/RATM/Eminem, CS in turn, will always remain the N'Sync/Britney/festering turd of gaming. Loved by the tasteless public, doomed to lifelong ridicule. Elitist? Sue me.

Quake 3 Tournament

Ok, this is serious guys. How many of you quakers out there are interested in joining a Quake 3 tourney? I am trying to make a survey here to see how many of you guys/gals out there are interested in joining. If there are enough participants, the tournament can be held. The minimum amount of players required are 30 people. So pass the word around ok? The tournament will be held in December. Anyone who is interested in joining leave a comment than at least I can count how many are joining. Keep the fire burning for quake!

Match to Watch

Todays match for the Warzone league is between Ghost and NBTD. All those who are interested in watching the match can go to the Warzone in SS3. I personally think that this match is worth watching and maybe while watching the 2 teams battle away, we might be able to learn some tactics. Who do you think might win? Anything goes in Counter Strike!

Red Alert 2

After many years, Westwood finally released the long awaited game, Red Alert 2. I am quite sure many of you people out there have already gone and bought yourself this game and might have been spending your entire Friday night playing this game.

Firstly I managed to play this game for an hour or so before I went to sleep. When I woke up this morning I couldn't start the game at all. Everytime I loaded the game all I get is some Failed to Initialive shit and ask me to reinstall. Ok I fell for it at the beggining so I reinstalled the whole game. Guess what? The same stupid message came out again. After many many tries, I went back to the shop to change my CD. I just got back over an hour again. After playing for less than 10 mins, the whole program crashed saying about errors internally. Talk about bad luck. Rebooted my computer and tried loading the game again, the same thing happened again. Sheesh, talk about the worst luck. Anyway I think it is fate that I am not supposed to play this game until after my exams.

I can't really give it a thumbs up for the game. So far the new features were quite interesting especially garrisonning into civilian buildings and GI's being able to camp at a certain spot. All I have to say that Commander EVA is a babe and Tanya can search me any time!

Community Site

Here is another CS community site which features all the online CS gaming scene. I just checked it so far and it has around 123 Malaysian CS clans registered. Talk about greaqt numbers. Hopefully with any luck there would be the same amount of quake players too. Well I can hope can I? Just click here.
