Makaveli still in [9]

DOH this is beginning to get stupid. A recent statement made by Clan 9 claims that Mak is still a member of [9](US); he won't be playing in any public servers using his real handle nor will he be making anymore appearances in public IRC channels though - he's going underground. This is getting tiring. Get on with it, people.
On the local side, Backroom has accepted the newest member in their ranks, Kairi. This completes the BKRM-4B merger. Kraken have also recruited a new member, Cruz, just in time to see SENg go MIA with his new chick. Rumours have it that in Eclipse, Kopitiam will soon be stepping down as clan leader, citing boredom with the game (he means CHICKS of course but who would ever admit it). Slade[e] is set to take over the mantle. Finally, in Subang, Asylum has gone largely inactive because there simply is no one to play with anymore. They now await Secret Weapon KeiL to return from his CPL exploits to challenge Kraken. =P

News from the Kraken's Lair

The Kraken's Lair has an update, welcoming Cruz to their ranks [henceforth to be known as k.57-Cruz], and announcing that SENg will be pretty much laying off Quake while he spends more time with his new girlfriend. Yes, you heard me right [well, we got to see daikatana finally hit the retail shelves].

Makaveli leaves [9]

Makaveli made an official statement, which can be found at Cached's:
"I do not feel I want to play with any team at all due to the recent accusations surrounding why I left Deathrow and then shortly after joined Clan 9. Since people can't seem to be able to grasp that I just wanted to play and that the community has been annoying the living s**t out of me, I am going to take it upon myself to totally cut myself off from IRC and anything related to the community. I will still show up to lan events and continue to play 1 v 1 but I will do so completely anonymous."

-PLAM- loses sponsorship

According to Reap3r at the Asylum, PLAM [play like a man] the CS clan [headed by BKRMer Veldrane? can anyone confirm this?] has lost their sponsorship to facilitate the clan's trip to Singapore to participate in Atomic Arena. Earlier, the Asylum had reported that PLAM would in fact be sponsored by a family friend of one of its members [soh had the werd]. All that, and NBTD has secured yet another sponsorship deal, this time with Silver Surfer, the SS15 lan shop [heh]. Wow... bl33t. NBTD better not turn vapor in the first round of AA1 with all that 'nbtd is leet and rich' hype.

Still on the Asylum, the odd [o] known as g[oo]sehump has a homepage up. It's only the front page though [the links do not point anywhere], but it's already funny enough... and I'm not just talking about the parody of the cK bottle. Nice one mistar calvin.
10-minute-later update: /me slaps himself. And here's the link to the page.

Clan 9 expands

Clan 9, the much-feared mainly-European QW/Q3clan, has set up an American division. Now FEAR them even more:
Clan 9 AB (Http://www.clan9.com), the world famous Quake gaming clan, today announced the formation of a US division to be headed up by existing Swedish members Sujoy and Hakeem. "We have currently signed up 3 additional members for the team: Makaveli, c3 and visE - formerly of clans Deathrow, Demolition and clan Kapitol respectively - who will complete the team of 5. We will have our base of operations in the San Francisco Bay Area of California." said Amir "Hakeem" Haleem.
If you weren't following the news; Maka, c3, and visE had dropped/opted out of their respective clans only in the past week or so. Go to cached.net for the rather loud but interesting debate in the comments area regarding the issue [are the americans soldouts? do the europeans have a life?] with appearances by a host of *cough* lively personalities, Hakeem and c3 amongst others.

EVERYONE WILL BE 0WN3D. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. I HATE ANIMALS.

Interview with CPL Asia prez

Cantona, one of the few newshounds over at The Epicenter, has scored an interview with Jevan Tan, the president of CPL Asia. Here's something interesting:
Cantona : Any other interesting things can we expect other than the side events?
Jevan : Well..come and see Lotus! Lotus Cars has been a very kind sponsor, they are the latest one to come on. ... Finally, in conjunction with our title sponsor Taco Bell, there will be taco making contests. You also get to eat the tacos after making them!
We do know who's got a bigass stake in Lotus, don't we? And looks like charmless would have something else to do in Singapore that isn't computer- or babe-related. Click here for the interview.

Hi there. We're still alive, but we're not moving. Go get some mp3s or grab some free pr0n instead.

Finally, a Napster-friendly band

After all that who's-who-in-the-music-industry vs Napster brouhaha in the last few weeks that has passed, a band has finally stepped up to the plate for Napster. I spotted this short note over at offspring.com [ok ok, someone told me about it. big deal] and it sounds like pretty good news to offspring fans and pirates alike. We all know copyright laws and the RIAA suck big time, but that's life people. So live with it and start respecting the rights of the artistes and their material that you warez.

Demos from Korea

OK this is pretty old but you may have let this slipped this by [like I did, heh]. The Quaker's Compendium has scored some demos from the Korean qualifiers - to decide who gets sponsored to make the trip to Atomic Arena - and the first batch of demos are out. Get them here and remember to thank those mofos at the Compendium.

Atomic Arena updates

Missed loads of shit while I was sleeping... so instead of recycling the news over here, I suggest you visit The Quaker's Compendium and The Epicenter for the news. Look out for that bit on Fatality and Hakeem making the trip to Atomic Arena. And in the same article:
Mr Jevan Tan, chief executive officer of the Asian league, told The Straits Times that it would stage a second Asian tournament in November at another Asian city yet to be chosen, with quarterly tournaments by next year.
Wow. bl33t.

The local scene has been pretty quiet recently. And that blows, big time.

p/s: Don't thank me for pointing out the obvious.

Blacklabel vs Kraken match stats

Blacklabel has updated their stats page with the match stats for the match they played against Clan Kraken last week.
How do you go about generating something like that anyway? And can a more in-depth match analysis, like the weapons hit rate at Razer CPL generated by NetGames USA, be done? I don't believe the bL dudes re-ran through the demo and noting down the kills/deaths by hand.. or did they?

Looking Glass Studios Closes Down

Well, it seems the Smashing Pumpkins aren't the only guys who recently announced their break up. Looking Glass Studios, the guys who brought us classics like Thief 1&2, System Shock 1&2 and Flight Unlimited is apparently going the way of the dinosaurs too. The Adrenalin Vault got word of the break up, reasons cited for the closure of LGS were financial problems (despite Thief 2 doing brisk business) inside of LGS and also Eidos.

BluesNews received a open letter from a former LGS employee confirming the news, and also a word of thanks to all the fans who supported LGS's games over the years.

I bet Fly's bawling his heart out at the aspect of not seeing further sequels to his favourite games.

Misc Atomic Arena stuff

Here are bits and pieces of Atomic Arena-related information blatantly ripped from various sources:
Cantona over at the Epicenter has a scoop-of-sorts on the BYOC details. Click here for the loot.
According to this thread on the Epicenter msgboard, I gather that there'll be free food on the AA1 grounds [gg charmless], no one can hang out at the tourney area unless they have a match scheduled, and plans to make it a 24/3 event (24 hours a day for 3 days ler) are being given serious consideration. Lets hope this goes through.
In a recent interview with the Singaporean Quake news site, Quaker's Compendium [wassup guys], DM-Jmaster mentioned that THE Fatality would be going down to Singapore for AA1. I wouldn't bet on the dude taking part in the tourney though. Rather, I think he'll just be making a promo appearence [very much like the regular hollywood celeb only that fata carries around a razer instead of babes by the truckload] and doing his duties as a CPL StarPlayer [very much like beauty pagaent winners making their rounds, but fata doesn't have the boobs interest in social awareness crap].

Atomic Arena website updates

With a bit more than 2 weeks left in the run-up to Atomic Arena 1, the webmasters has the online registration through SSL [i'm no techie but i do know it's supposed to be good, heh] ready for abuse, added [finally!] the prize details [Taco Bell, Creative, and Microsoft are contributing to the prize pool], added a survey on transportation needs [that would really pertain to us if it realises that non-singaporeans wouldn't know which "pick-up point" from where], and get this ... announced a virtual soccer tournament that'll be held at AA1. The virtual soccer tourney would be run on FIFA 2000, 2on2 games will be the rule, and the organisers would be bringing in a few 'all-star' teams to kick butt.

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah?!

I've been wondering why no one mentioned Blahbalicious after watching Quad God (which sucked BTW). Well, it can now be deservingly found at the Machinima Showcase. For those who've never heard of things like these, the ground breaking Quake 1 movie Blahbalicious requires Quake to run. There are quotes from the authors, Mackey "Avatar" McCandlish and Brian "Wendigo" Hess, a REAL media version of the flick and some pics. Also check out the original Blahbalicious homepage. gg!

The Future of Competitive Gaming

I've always wanted to write a piece on this, but for now, this article at gamepig.com by Twitch will have to do. It contains some thoughts on why team-based games/mods like CS may eventually replace 1 on 1 deathmatches in pro gaming. Right.

Catch too what Angel Munoz has to say when queried about the competitive platforms being so quickly changed and replaced with every new game in the market:

One of the ways that the CPL deals with this potential problem is by maintaining a cohesive platform. The CPL has used only id's Quake games in all of its events, and because of this approach many gamers still remain in the top ranks of our league through all three different versions of the game. The professional gamers and the gaming community at large will determine what game we will use beyond the Quake platform, and it will have to be a game where the physics, dynamics and geometry of the game are consistent with the games we have used in the past.

It's a good day to be alive

I got my car back today, after 2 whole months of tumpang-ing friends and hailing cabs. So naturally, I'm very happy today. And here's a gift to you guys: here's a pic of my car a day or two after that big crash I had. Oh, and you don't have to tell me how lucky I am to be able to get out that car wreck alive... I'm still pretty much wondering how I can still be here typing this.

gg quekmastur

Well, looks like Quekmastur stood out in the huge crowd of Jeff K wannabes as the lamest of them all, even gaining the attention of the mighty Lowtax himself. Look at his update on Something Awful regarding quekmastur, and see what he has to say about all the other *looks at MQCS poll* Jeff K wannabes. This stuff is excellent comment bait btw. Hopefully e-my doesn't fuckup with all the uptime quekmastur is gonna receive, and of course flame mail by the fuckloads too =) gg quekmastur, you aren't so funny afterall.

Mod news

Urban Terror is a Q3 mod that earns my rarely-given THIS BETTER NOT TURN VAPOR™ award. The Silicon Ice team will be out with their first Urban Terror release [they've not released anything yet. yeah, I'm a sucker for hype] as soon as they port the code to fit in with the latest q3 point release [1.17]. But they recently put up a bigass 4meg flash trailer for download on their page... I'm halfway downloading it though so no comments yet. Just load the trailer while you go wank or something la ok... I bet that's what you do anyway when you warez your mp3s.

Oh, and Trent Reznor [you do know who he is, don't you?] and his crew must've been a happy man last weekend when Weapons Factory for q3 was released. I bet he would've been even happier if Jennifer Love Hewitt moved in with him.
