More accomodation options

The Atomic Arena website has been updated with a bit more on hotels with their rates. They're terribly expensive IMO, but hey, this from someone whose main gripe about Singapore is they fuckin charge you for a small plate of dhal to go with your roti. Anyway, this doesn't look right: on this hotel info page, it asks you to e-mail CPL Asia with your credit card info and particulars if you want to make reservations with the hotels. Wats up with that?
Oh, and I'm getting my car back tomorrow. Now, all that's left to make my life perfect is for Jennifer Love Hewitt to move in with me. Yeah.
Korean news
[ 1:16 AM | keil
]
Judging by this piece of news on the Quaker's Compendium, PowerK, Elan, and Karin won't be the only Koreans we'll be seeing in Singapore [for atomic arena la duh]. According to slashdot who got this from "the grapevine", the Quake-crazy Koreans will be having a tournament among themselves to decide who will get an all expense paid trip to Singapore to compete in Atomic Arena. Around 200 players are involved in this tournament and they're due to be over with the qualifying thingie in a week or two. No idea how many will be sponsored for the trip though. Anyway, the Quaker's Compendium promised to bring you the demos, so stay tuned alright?

CounterStrike news in the Asylum
[ 11:02 PM | keil

]
Reap3r from Asylum has been furnishing his clan's news page with loads of news, mainly about the latest happenings in the Subang CounterStrike scene. According to the page: NBTD and -PLAM- will be sponsored to show off their madskillz at Atomic Arena 1 in Singapore [NBTD by Firesurf, a cybercafe in SS15, and -PLAM- by a generous family friend of one of its players], NBTD beat -PLAM- in a recent friendly, NBTD has a forum online, and Silver Surfer's login system has gone high tech *phew*. Visit Asylum's news for the even finer details.
Atomic Arena website up

The CPL Asia event, Atomic Arena 1, has their own website now at http://www.atomicarena.com so go check it out now. It's still pretty messy with not many new details [eg: prize details] but it has listed hotel rates and a map of the venue location is available [HAVE A MAGNIFYING GLASS WITHIN REACH THOUGH, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED]. Online registration is up but it's not SSL-capable yet so you might want to wait for that if you're keen on booking a place ASAP. The page with the rules and regulations were still full of contradictions though.. here's a prime example: First, you can read ... The 128-man single elimination bracket will be used to determine the tournament's final 32, which will compete in a full double elimination bracket.
Further down the page... Free-for-all matches are on 9th June 2000 (Friday) and will run until 10th June 2000 (Saturday). Saturday will end at 11pm with 12 competitors remaining. I have no idea what's up, so go e-mail the webmasters, Daphne and Aaron, instead.

The newest beta of the Challenge Pro Mode is out, check it out to see the improvements made over the first beta, and play quake the way the pros think it should be played *cough* Download the 6.3mb zip here courtesy of the challenge-world guys, I suppose they won't mind me linking directly to them. Comments, brickbats please provide them in the comments section, and more to come when my download actually finishes.

More CPL Registration details
[ 6:22 PM | fly
| 74 comments
]
Online registration for CPL Asia should be up sometime today, details will be in the Epicenter (thanks Phenic) but in case you don't have a credit card or are to lazy to post a bank draft...
Seeing that I'm going to Singapore on Sunday, I'll do my mandatory good deed and offer to register in CPL Asia on the behalf of anyone who wants me to. If there's any of you who would like me to register on your behalf, make your way to the money changers NOW and trade those worn-out RM's for some soft fluffy Singapore Dollars (If you're registering for just the Q3 Tournament, it'll be SGD $25). Don't pass the money to me in ringgit, I won't be arsed to change it for you, unless you're offering an exchange rate in the realm of RM23 to SGD$1.
Next, you've got to find some way to pass the money to me. I might be in Warzone on Sunday 10am to 1pm, so there's an option there. I'll let you guys know for sure. Keep in mind the recent robbery at Warzone, so I can't make any guarantees for the safety of the money. =) It's your call. Post in the comments or e-mail me if you want me to register for you so that I'll know about it.

Atomic Arena 1 registration details for Malaysians
[ 4:09 AM | keil

]
I received an e-mail from Phenic, CPL Asia's webmaster, which answers a few of my queries regarding how Malaysians will go about the registration process for Atomic Arena 1. Here's a snippet from the mail:For the guys who need to register for the touraments, you can go through the registration page using credit cards or one other way is to send your registration form + postal order through your post office. (those under 16 do need to send parentalconsent forms too) What this means is that there WILL be an online-registration option. Phenic also wrote that it is not possible for the CPL Asia guys to reserve spots for us if we were to register and pay later when we reach the event venue. I don't know whether our local post offices sell money orders in a foreign currency, but I'm pretty sure you can go to the bank and get bank drafts/international postal order. It's a very easy process [despite the jargon] so I guess that's the best choice if you're not privileged enough to have access to credit card facilities.

More malaysian-related Epicenter thread activity

You might want to check this thread out [just opened early this morning], from the Singaporean Epicenter Messageboard. It's more flame-inviting crap that does good for an amusing read, but not worthy enough to demand serious attention.
Kraken victors over Blacklabel
[ 3:16 PM | keil

Clan Kraken does good again. This time, they beat Blacklabel, winning the 2 games played on DM6 and DM7. Being the lousy-ass 'journalist' that I am, I totally forget to note down the exact scores of the matches!! The games were really really close though, I can tell you that because I played for the Krakens. Some of the Backroomers were there at Warzone and they recorded demos of the games [thx whir and m0nk3y], maybe we'll post the demos up if we can get hold of them [and if we're feeling generous enough, heh]. gg everyone ... lets have more clan matches and be merry.
Personal beetchin': I just got back from the game and I'm dead tired... hanging out and stoning in Warzone right after my classes ended at 4pm YESTERDAY. I developed a slight fever last night while at Warzone too. Naturally, I'm feeling shitty. And no, this isn't supposed to be funny... thx bye.

Clan Kraken will finally be giving a credible team a chance of cracking their egg-loss record. The sea-monsters will be playing Blacklabel at Warzone in Damansara Jaya, on Thursday [May 18] at around 10am. The clans' respective homepages have been updated with the match details. So like, gl guys... and gl KeiL! [gheyed]

It's late [or early, depending on how you see it]. Classes open for the new semester in 5 hours time and I'm still not in bed. I just wanna say hi and thx for reading this.. and like, I REALLY NEED SLEEP DON'T I?!? But since I'm already here, I might as well bring you something to read about, no? Quake-unrelated news, I'd have to warn you beforehand.
The 2nd Crow sequel, Crow: Salvation, is due to be released any day now. The film stars Eric Mabius as the main man this time [I don't know who he is either] and Kirsten Dunst as the lead female. This fine fan site by Cecil has all the info you need about the movie, and here's the IMDB entry. The soundtrack [my favourite bit], featuring Filter [the headline act], Rob Zombie, Static X, and Danzig [!!!], amongst others, is already out. Click here for more info on the soundtrack. If you can recall, rumours flying around during early in the movie's production was that Rob Zombie was to direct this instalment of the movie series, with Trent Reznor as the protagonist of the movie [with the working title of Crow: 2029 or something, then later changed to Crow: Gods and Monsters]. Yeah, that's a bit of movie trivia for you guys.
I don't dig rap/hiphop. But I do dig The D.O.C. Anyone who has ever taken a ride in my car [gonna be done with repairs in less than 2 weeks *fingers crossed*] will have heard the doc's material from Helter Skelter [his second and last album], because it's always playing in my car stereo. And I would make sure they know about the rapper's story too [about his near-fatal car crash which tragically altered his voice]. It was a miracle I lent it to someone before I got into that car accident [don't ask], or else it would've been smashed up like the other cassettes I had in my car at that time [stuck mojo's pigwalk, the ost to crow 2, dog eat dog's album.. drooling already leh?]. It's like nearly impossible to find the the mp3s from Helter Skelter, but thx to my mp3-searching leetness, I found my fave track from the album. Yeah, I'm well aware that mp3s are illegal, so don't give me a lecture on legalities and ethics cos I don't really care. Anyway, download The D.O.C.'s From Ruthless 2 Death Row. Don't thank me... thank the doc instead [however you may reach him, he seems to have vanished into nothingness] and ask him to get new material out. Then, get the CD.
p/s : May 22 = Daikatana-Day ... the wait will officially be over. gg Killcreek!

Map Selection for Atomic Arena 1
[ 1:47 PM | Nael
| 3 comments
]
According to Fly in the BKRM page and KeiL in the previous post, the maps for the 1 on 1's will be chosen by both players; in the event that they cannot agree on a map (from Q3Tourney2, Q3Tourney4, Q3DM6 and Q3DM13) after 5 minutes, the default map to be played on will be Q3DM6.
After some checking, I managed to dig some conflicting info at http://www.cplasia.com/events/ff2000quake.html which says:
Both players must decide on the map, from the list of tournament maps, before they proceed for each duel match. The players will have to report their agreed map to the tournament director before the tournament commences. If both players cannot decide on the map within 5 minutes from the scheduled match time, the map will be randomly chosen by the tournament director through a dice roll.
This basically means the map will be randomly chosen after all.
CPL Asia event details
[ 3:06 AM | keil

Yes, after what seemed to be like another daikatana-like wait [without the pr0n though], the details for the upcoming CPL Asia event in Singapore has been released. The event is now renamed to Atomic Arena 1 [from Frag Fest 2000], no doubt, to escape having to think up of another name for the next event. Heh sorry, couldn't resist a swipe at the machine. It'll be held on June 9th to the 11th at Singapore's World Trade Centre. Registration commences on May 19, and is S$25 for the Q3 tournament, and S$100 for a team of 5 [plus 1 reserve] for the CounterStrike tournament. Details here <-- clicktherefag!! And here's a summary of the details for the lazy mofos amongst you people :-
The tournament proceedings is similiar to RazerCPL, with FFA qualifying rounds [this time to be conducted on q3dm12] to decide who carries on to the 128-man single elimination round [you're out if you lose your match], which will then decide the final 32-man double elimination round players [you're out if you lose 2 matches, like duh]. Players who has proceeded on to the 1on1 rounds have a choice of playing on either q3tourney2, q3tourney4, q3dm6, and q3dm13, with q3dm6 being the default map if players cannot decide on any one map. The list of eligible maps is still open to changes till the June 1. Headphones are a must, and you can bring your own mouse and keyboard. Tournament participants are required to check-in before 6.30pm on June 9th at the tourney venue. I suppose the tourney will run from Friday late evening till Sunday night [it's been announced that the prize-giving ceremony won't be over till 10pm]. Looks like us Malaysians would be there for a 5days-4nights stay [including Thursday night]... fly S$S$S$ baby, fly. No details of the exact prize details but the collective prize money for both the q3 and cs/hl tourney is S$20K. The people's champion at CPL Asia, Phenic, previously posted a comment that the Atomic Arena details posted on the main CPL site are wrong [especially that bit on prizes totalling only S$15K]. Vulgar and obscene language and gestures are highly frowned upon [hey, it's conservative Singapore dammit, give face a bit ler] so fix that mouth of yours. Well, it looks like there won't be any BYOC-event babes [yeah, you can always rely on KeiL for the pix0rs] .

Kraken vs BlackLabel still on?

bL.Anthracite just e-mailed and he says that BlackLabel are now able to make it for their game with Kraken this Sunday (tomorrow). Kraken needs to get back to them with 'the quickness' though before it's confirmed.
2:30 Update: Look's like Kraken won't be able to make it based on the comments. Match will hopefully take place next Sunday.
