Voodoo 5 vs GeForce 2

HardOCP presents a tasty Voodoo 5/GeForce 2 comparison, complete with benchmarks from the final retail Voodoo 5 drivers that came out yesterday. All previous benchmarks were based on month old beta drivers. It's not looking too glum for 3dfx there, especially since this card is priced closer to the original GeForce DDR and is faster.

E3 Coverage

Some actual pictures of the event, not up to those JeffK had the opportunity and good fortune to take, of course. Includes those of a new mouse unleashed by Razer, called Mamba. Urgh.
Of course, we would rather see KeiL's booth babes, found exclusively on the Shack. Sweet and deadly women!

GameSpot UK

4.30pm update by KeiL : The 16 year old portraying Lara Croft has made her grand entrance at E3. Pictures are available at the 'shack but I doubt these pics of the hottie are the only ones around... I'm still busy poring over the pictures scary took, so bugger off.

All the E3 coverage you'll ever need ...

... at my buddy JeffK's page. CLICK HERE YOU FAGGOT ====> FAG!!

Killcreek Pix

Everyone's favourite level designer Killcreek@Stevie Case finally has her playboy pictorial out online, and i just downloaded the .zip full of hi-res pix ! Nuff said. Thanks to the shack for the links =)

CPL FragFest 2000

Took this off Epicenter, who took the news off the main CPL page (NOT the CPL Asia one, doh):

Taco Bell CPL Asia Championship
Location: Singapore
Building: World Trade Center | Hall 2 & Costal Suites
Dates: June 9 - June 11
Expected Attendance: 550
Expected BYOC size: 200
Official Tournament Games: Quake 3 & Half-Life/Counter-Strike
Tournament Competitors: 300 / 200
Cash Prizes: S$15,000
General Admission: S$25

So the dates seem fixed at the moment, with total cash prizes fast dwindling from the original S$20K slated for EACH game. Now, if CS requires a team of, say, 5 people, we'll not see more than 40 teams this time. So it's gonna be tough getting a place for the event!

WTF are the CPL Asia people doing? They seem pretty incompetent to me...

Thursday - May 11 2000

KeiL's a celebrity now!

Or so said this tread at the Epicenter msgboard. Hahah it's a real laugh, as there's word that I'm Malaysia's secret weapon for CPL Asia's FragFest 2000. Thanks for the vote of confidence LaFudge ... but you got it all wrong because:
QUEKMASTUR'S DA MAN!!

Eclipse Revamp

Clan Eclipse is revamping their website. That's what it looks like anyway; no news when the new site will be up.

For a whole slew of updates on the international Quake scene, BlackLabel seems to be doing a mighty fine summary.

Kraken vs Black Label match postponed... and more movies

Clan Kraken has posted news over at their lair that their match with Black Label has been "postponed to next week". Exact date is not confirmed yet as the clans are "not sure whether it will be held on a Saturday or a Sunday." Hmmm, my vacation to Penang was cut short for naught... damn you Mavik.

Saw this on Kraken's site: an amateur movie revolving around the main characters of the Quake series, and Doom too. It's developed by Tritin Films, and the site pimping the movie has a leet flash intro. Go check it out... I'm so excited over this that I'm gonna give it my 'THIS BETTER NOT TURN VAPOR'™ award. Looks like we can now look forward to a movie [hollywood-produced or not] that doesn't have Keanu Reeves nor lightsabres in it.

Mista T is back

Totally Quake-unrelated news but interesting nonetheless. It looks like the A-Team, a TV series from the '80s featuring Mr. T as one of the lead characters, will be making the leap to the silver screen soon. There's already an IMDB entry for the movie. Visit this site for a bit more info on the movie.

While still on the subject, what would you like to see ported over to the silver screen? Airwolf would be good [yes, another '80s classic], and my hopes and prayers go to Spiderman, Duke Nukem, and all the guys from id software games [Quake guy, Doom guy, and Wolfenstein guy.. er, BJ] to appear in their own movies. But, I've enough of Mortal Kombat flicks so skrew that.

Oh and for those that missed one of my updates on the Kraken's Lair, Rainbox Six will be coming to a cinema near you. The Daily Radar and PCXL has the word and various Rainbow Six fansites has posted the news. THIS BETTER NOT TURN VAPOR.

Early morning pms update

Been pretty quiet lately, no? I can't sleep... blame it on my irregular sleeping schedule.

I have to come out into the open ... I hafta admit that I neglected to visit the links from updates my esteemed colleague, Mistar Nael, has posted. For instance, the update on Return To Wolfenstein. Someone had to come rant to me about Wolfenstein Arena [yes that's what I'm gonna call the game now] before I got off my lazy ass and checked it out for myself. The screenshots are fuckin beauties, check 'em out if you haven't already. Ladies and gentlemen, BJ's back.

Anyway, E3 is happening right now. However, THE Duke won't be making an appearence [3D Realms would prefer to keep things under wraps] so fuck E3. The whole thing is just a cover-up to parade females covered in fabrics that would put even Toni Braxton to shame, and what more, calling them deragotary names such as booth babes and everyone's whores [ok I made that one up, it should've been KeiL's whores]... not that I'm complaining though [do I sound like I am? oh.. sorry]. My only gripe is that I'm not there at E3 to fully appreciate nature's silicone-aided beauty in the flesh [ok, bad pun]. Uh anyway for some rad fun, see what happens when Mr T and Duke Nukem dukes it out [damn].

The Daily Radar announced that they'll be featuring an exclusive trailer of Warcraft 3. Personally, I don't really care but I believe this piece of news would interest many of you RTS fans.
3pm update : The trailer is out. Get it here .

This just in - Gamers.com, a company formed by Ferrari-winning Pokemon-grandmaster Thresh shortly after his Red Annihilation feat eons ago, is taking over the reins of the Professional Gamers' League. If you've been following the international Quake scene you would be able to recall PGL's demise, a result of a change of the previous management's direction towards more family-oriented online gaming. Now lets see if PGL can give CPL a run for its money. May the Force be with the organisation that doesn't forget that Malaysia has gamers too.

Sup?

Hello. My name is Fly. You may know me from previous works such as http://go.to/bkrm and the on-going mini-series, "Being Wank at Quake". I'm here today to make a post here at SoH, which incidently is also my first one. So please be gentle. Anyway, seeing that I've been mentioned as being part of the crew here at SoH, I thought it would be a good idea to update once in a while (plus when a man says 'biznichin', you haul ass). So sup wit you?

Things haven't been too cool with me. Being assigned to a client's project site which seems to have aluminium wire through a peehole for internet access, is no fun. So updates here and at http://go.to/bkrm have been a lot harder to do. Plus when I get home, there's Daikatana to play, which FFS, I have no idea why I'm putting myself through it. Maybe it's like those brutal car accidents that you just can't help but keep staring even though the driver involved in the said accident has lost large quantities of brain and at the same time you are trying not to lose your lunch. But hopefully, I'll be able to review it (Daikatana, I mean).

I have no idea how to end this update.

Who was Elan?

Everyone noticed KeiL's short disappearance from the scene when he went back to Penang. I guessed nobody missed me when I disappeared huh. Well, you probably saw me in action even if you didn't know it at that time. Remember the two Koreans who went to CPL? Only one was authentic. The other "Korean" was a pretender, and although he did pretty well, you all know he wasn't up to the standard then.

His name was Elan. Now unscramble the letters, and whaddaya get?

I know, I know, I 0wned a|pureluck real good.

Elan, Nael, it's all in the mouse-flicks.

Misc stuff ...

Bits of news you might find interesting.

A new Lara Croft E3 booth babe, Core Design announced [this should be in an update all by itself but what the heck]. Some 16 year old chick will be dressing up and parading around E3 as that chick in Tomb Raider. This post at the Shugashack has the details and pics [but of course] and E3@Stomped has word that the 'underground' internet affiliation group UGO will have a drag queen portraying Lara Croft too at their E3 booth. While on the topic of booth babes, visit E3@Stomped for daily pics of previous E3 chicks [who would've guessed that chicks digs techies huh].

I want this for xmas. Hell, fuck December.. I want this right now.
Ok ok, this may not be such a new idea and there MAY be previous efforts of making car stereos play MP3s but not one venture set out by a major audiophile company like Aiwa. So I guess it's pretty safe to hope for this piece of spoogeware to appear on our retail shelves.
5pm update : For more car mp3-stereos coverage, go to this site by mp3.com.

Remember the classic Amiga game Speedball? Well I know most of us didn't have Commodore systems back then but the game was ported to the Sega Megadrive [the Genesis if you were in yankee-land] and coin-op machines so there's no reason why you shouldn't have heard about the kickass game before. Anyway a Q3 mod of the game is being worked on and eXtreme-Players has 8 exclusive screenshots to the mod [developed by these mofos]. The site is all chinese or something so here's a direct link to the loot: CLICKMENOW.

beetchin'

OK peepz I'm back from my vacation in Penang. And I came back to a sorry-ass non-working computer!! LIKE WTF!! It was working fine just a week ago and now it isn't [I'm updating from my unc's computer just outside my room if you were wondering] From what I gather [not much actually as I'm still recovering from the effects of the weed I smoked on the way home] the monitor ain't receiving no signal from the vidcard. I swapped the vidcard and monitor with a spare Riva128 and an old 14-inch that I have lying around but the problem persists so I guess the vidcard ain't the trouble-maker. So that boils down to :
a) The overclocked celery has met its maker
b) The motherboard is skrewed
c) The computer thinks that I've been sleeping around while I was away [highly unlikely and I don't need to elaborate]
d) all of the above
Can ANYONE help me? I can tell, or rather, hear that the computer isn't booting up anyway as there's no BEEP sound like the norm when the BIOS details appears on the screen [if and when my computer's working, of course]. You know where to leave your comments ...
update : Ok thx to my tech-leetness, my computer's fixed. thx for the ghey help, pesky.

Sorry for the lack of updates during the last few days but as you can see Nael's been trying his best getting the lowdown on the shit that you'd like to see without visiting 10 different sites and searching for them yourself. But the fact is, the local scene's pretty quiet [oh, Kraken's playing BL this weekend] and there's no reason that it should so lets get busy dammit.

Pretty uneventful week in KeiL's [yeah that's me] social life. I was in Penang though, so I guess that could be the problem.

memo to the soh crew : where the bitznichin' fuck are you guys dammit?!?

Return to Wolfenstein

Some info and screenshots on Return to Wolfenstein are available at the Adrenaline Vault. For the ignorant Wolfenstein was the first ever FPS to grace the gaming scene. It prepared (not) the world for Doom to come blasting through. I personally remember running around the levels hugging walls and hitting spacebar at every suspicious looking texture hoping to find a secret room (until I keeled over and puked). Today it's been blessed with the Q3A graphics engine (and a new scripting system), and with id overseeing the development by Gray Matter Interactive Studios it's certainly looking good.

Everglide Pads in Malaysia

For the unfortunate few whose mice have been kissing the tabletop, have no more fear! After tireless scrounging around I've dug up Malaysia's seemingly sole supplier of Everglide Attack Pads. Visit http://zypher.hypermart.net for more info. I just acquired a 3M PMS (yeah after all these years) but find it akin to dragging your mouse in mud, so I guess trying a chopping board instead wouldn't hurt.

Asylum and NBTD: Politically Correct

Good and timely news here. Whatever conflict pre-existed has been resolved, and we're the best of buddies again. LilHamster will be buying Nael (that's me!) a drink at Coffee Bean (that cheapskate), in the spirit of BlackLabel's "get a drink before fraggin'". That's good, because the way things are going, if Guiz or Whir doesn't take home something from Frag Fest 2000, our prizes should be pouring in from the CS division. And that means NBTD, and probably PLAM, both Silver Surfer based clans can be found practicing really, really hard.

QuakeCon 2000 Opens for Registration

Registration for QuakeCon 2000 has started. For the uninitiated, QC2K is some big ass LAN event which will be held at The Mesquite Convention Center and Exhibition Hall in Mesquite, Texas this summer. AMD, Activision and id Software are among the sponsors for this huge event.

I just checked again - the 512 player and Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) slots have all been filled. These confirmed slots will be reopened during the event in case of no-shows. Oh well, who's going there anyway?

It's yo' day, Nael

Hai peepz I just want to announce that it's soh crewmate Nael's birthday today. I HAD to find this out over at the MQCS msgboard so like thx for the no-tip guys. Too bad for Nael this site ain't hitting the bigtime just yet .. else he should be expecting broads by the hordes to be arriving at his doorstep offering complimentary birthday BJs. Yeh.

Trilinear and bilinear : Explained

Found this article that explains the bilinear and trilinear texture filtering methods [yeah, those geek-like terms you can find in your Quake III video setup screen]. I found it a great help and I believe many of the tech-ignorant mofos amongst soh's readers will appreciate my daily leet links like this one. Especially so if they've got friends like some of those that I hang out with that explains the difference between bilinear and trilinear this way : "bilinear = billions of colors; trilinear = trillions of colors". Thanks a lot for the tip, Leonard.
