Attention all quakers who are interested in joining the Malaysian Team. I am holding a meeting at Warzone2 which is at SS3 on Sunday afternoon at around 2pm. This meeting is to discuss how the selection of the quake team be selected. I need support from you guys to help make this thing real! Spread the word around and tell everyone about the meeting. Keil has also something interesting to tell everyone I think but I just hope that I can get your support to help make this thing real. Spread the word around okay? Any suggestions you can email me at mavik@tm.net.my or my UIN is 22350869.

Malaysian National Team

Yes that's right. Lets for a national team. Then maybe we can have some friendly matches with our neigbouring countries for example Thailand, Singapore or maybe even Korea. What I suggest is maybe 2-3 players from each clan? Since the only semi active clans are Kraken, Asylum, Backroom, Atomics and maybe Eclipse, I guess that maybe 2-3 players from each clan should be sufficient. This post is to get your attention all you quakers out there. I need feed backs ok? What is your opinion? Do my idea suck or not? Well just feel free to post up anything or suggestions you have in mind. Remember lets perk up the quake gaming scene in Malaysia!

Carnage is Out!

Some old results:

Lakerman (SWE) over Lobsta (AUS)
fatal1ty (USA) over Stelam (GER)
ID-Apple (CHN) over [V6]KariN (HK)
emplate (CAN) over Carnage (SNG)
Trinidy (SWE) over Bloodshot (USA)
Python (AUS) over L2 (CHN)
Zero4 (USA) over Scoob (AUS)
Zyz (GER) over Edge (CAN)

Our favourite Evil Dawg just went down to Clan Xeno's Emplate in the World Cybergames Championship. No news on the actual scores or maps played, though. Emplate had earlier had a big win over [9]DOOMer.

Emplate was the chosen favourite so this can't really be considered an upset. Here's what Muiy from CHUS had to say in his earlier predictions, whether or not we like the easiest road bit:

Looking at the brackets, I think the favorites for the winner's bracket final four would have to be Fatality/Lakerman, Emplate, Trinidy/Python, and Zero4. Emplate scored a big victory over DOOMer in the Round of 32, and he really could be the cinderalla of this tournament. He also has the easiest road, with a match next against Carnage (Singapore) and then against Apple (China) if he wins.
For good info, head over to FxR's site, or check out GameOnAir's list of qualifiers, the winner's bracket and loser's bracket.

Update: I must be getting old, scrapping old news. Carnage, after being knocked into the Loser's is completely out after losing to UK's 4K^Silent in Q3Tourney2.

Meanwhile you can listen to someone Buzzing away at the Epicenter boards...

The food sux, the resort sux, the systems sux, the staff sux, the rules sux.
The girls RULES!!!!!!!!!
80% of the girls i saw pass and ****able.
So far i only saw like erm 2 fat girls in korea.

It's Getting Windy

The state of the Quakemunity must be at its lowest currently. I just visited Warzone 3 last night and they were still running version 1.11 of Q3A. Doh. The only reason the other two Warzones have updated files is that the boys at Backroom have been fragging away there; they don't settle for anything less than the best. For those who've never heard of Warzone, I'm not surprised: Warzone is a very underground gaming room (no Internet connection even) without signs or much advertisement. To get in, you have to Look For The Green Door, use the intercom, and the boys up there will check you out on their CCTV before remotely unlocking the grill. Cool. Nice anti-parang-wielding-thugs touch.

HOWEVER things might just be getting better; a last gasp perhaps, or some breathing space at least. Quake in Malaysia is on the brink of heading for the stars, and although there's nothing confirmed as yet, things sure are sounding better.

For one, there are rumours that a HOPE-inspired Carnage has made a personal effort in roping in sponsorship for a local tourney where the winner might be flown to the next BattleTop event. Oo.

The Challenge Network has also taken some notice of our little community here; all I can say now is SoH was a right pursuit after the slumbering cyclops that was MQCS.

Will this revive (or even create AWARENESS of) Quake, as not only a game (it is NOT new contrary to some idiots who first point at and mistake it for some "new CS ar?!"), but a piece of history, a sport, a competition and a tradition? Or are we heading further into the deep end, screaming "Hardcore" into oblivion?

Sadly, Malaysians just don't cut it too well in the Hardcore category, and that is why they endlessly pursue the "fun" of CS. Didn't mean to rant in the news page, buy hey, my own column would be good right?

Screenies

Here are some screenshots for you people out there who can't wait for these upcoming games!

More and more Red Alert 2 screenshots have been posted revealing all the mayhem that is expected to enter the shops around November.

More Mech devastation available with the upcoming MechWarrior4. Check out these screenies for some idea on how the battle scenes would look like in this upcoming game!

Warzone League

The first day of the Warzone League just passed yesterday with Clan Kraken losing to Clan OG by one win. In the first match, Kraken lost the flip and had to choose terrorists. This gave the advantage to OG to trash Kraken 19-5. Kraken's lost was not that severe. When it came to the second match and the side's were changed, Kraken tried to get 14 wins to try to draw with OG but only managed to beat OG 13-0. Since OG knew that they were winning with a large margin, their tactic for terrorists were to camp and wait till time's up. Well after seeing OG played, I never knew de_dust had so many hiding spots until now =P. Anyway it was a great game and gg to the winners!

WGCC Qualifiers

Here are matches that were played during the weekend at WGCC. Sorry for posting this up late but was getting ready for a Counter Strike League match yesterday. More news about the league coming up! Anyway lets not get carried away. Firstly s37.Elan from Korea won 2 of his matches both in Q3DM13 while High-winD]NOS[ from Japan losing to Elan but winning T2 from Hong Kong in Q3DM13 were the qualifiers from Group 1. Seems that all the qualifying matches were in Q3DM13. Pity the players who didn't know anyting about this setup. Anyway Fatality had a rough match with Stelam only barely winning Stelam 9-4 while Stelam had a very tough match with InsaneKILL from Mexico wining only 1-0. Close call. Our good neighbours both qualified where Carnage won both his matches and Buzz winning one match and losing one to Python from down under.

Anyway here are the rest of the qualifiers!

Olympics in Korea?

Yeah you heard it right. There is an olympics in Korea. It is the World Games Cyber Challenge. It is a pity that we Malaysians can't have a chance to represent our country but still there is always hope. Maybe when the government don't think that computer games are a waste of time or cyber cafes are illegal, there could be a slight 0.001% chance that we can actually have a big gaming scene. By the way, good luck to the Singaporeans who are competing in the World Games Cyber Challenge. Remember to uphold the South East Asian pride!

CPL Asia

Looks like CPL Asia has just revamped their site now showing a great touch of Asian culture and design. So far it seems to be updating their news lately. Another site to bookmark! Check out the new site right over here.

CS Warzone League Updates

Okay here are the updates. Sorry for posting this up so late but at least it's finally up. Well the results are quite expected I think for most people. Anyway here they are;

First Day of Qualifier
Clan: Gang beat [v]endetta 23-9
Clan: WPGS (We play Ghey strike) beat M|O|D 31-5
Clan: (Omaha)-Zigzag beat Outlaw 22-4
Clan: Plam2 beat Spana 42-2

Top fragger of da day= WPGS Zanzamar, with 42 frags and 8 deaths.and 8 deths.

Second Day of Qualifier
Clan: S.I (Sanctioned Insanity) beat 3D 32-1
Clan: Plam1 beat blur 33-5
Clan: NBTD beat [x_x]dead_blur 48-1
Clan: Omaha2 beat F/Skin 17-3
Clan: Ghost beat S.P.Y 34-1
Clan: S.I_team2 beat NBR 20-6
Clan: Alien beat Gold 27-3
Clan: TGA draw/drew P.S.U 14-14 (but TGA won due tohighest individual frags)
Clan: DB beat E.I.D 24-14
Clan: P.S.U-2 beat OTG 29-10
Clan: Kraken won Silent Killers 0-0 (walkover for Kraken).
Clan: D.I.O.P beat Virus 42-1

Seems that Kraken got lucky and had a walkover. According to my sources, the Clan Silent Killers couldn't make it that day and only 3 could turn up. Therefore they finally said that they would give Kraken a walkover. Anyway GG all these teams.

Warzone CS League

Today is the 2nd day of the qualifying rounds with teams like Omaha 1 and 2 playing today. Also Kraken has a matchup around 7.30pm. After tonight more info about the teams who qualified will be posted up. These qualified teams will endure a 3 months battle in a league format. In each league game, the winner will receive 3 points while the loser gets only 1 point. In an event of a draw both teams will receive 1 point each. If a team does not turn up for the match, that a walkoever will commence and the winning team will receive 3 points while the team that didn't turn up will have a -1 point from their total points. Clan OG were very lucky as they didn't have to go through the qualifying rounds as they were bypassed due to lucky drawing.

Britney Spears Rox!

A new definition for Britney is that she rocks. Thats what happened at the taylor's Battle of The Bands 2000. Remember about Keil singing? Well his band sang Crazy by Britney Spears and the judges from EMI gave their band 2nd place. Talk about rocking the place with Britney Spears! Anyway the winners were Pez69, The Batangs(Keil) and Sunflower. Unfortunately my band didn't get any placing =(, but the whole event was fun and cool. Remember Keil, we are all ball suckers!

Whats More To Come?

After what Nael has posted earlier, well it seems that the Malaysian gaming scene will always end up lost(the Quake scene that is). Just down below us, our neighbours seem to be doing very well, or is it that we can't show our real potential. Read this and weep.

SINGAPORE 18th Sept 2000- SiliconHorizon.com, the largest professional gaming hardware distributors in Asia, announced today that Carnage, also known as Darren Martin Lee, would be the company’s first corporate sponsored gamer. SiliconHorizon.com will provide Carnage, the undisputed Quake III local champion, with full gaming hardware sponsorship including the Razer Boomslang™ gaming mouse, Everglide Gaming Mousepads and other cutting edge gaming hardware as well as traveling and lodging expenses for selected gaming tournaments regionally. SiliconHorizon.com will also provide hardware sponsorship for the Singapore Quake Team.

All the best to the Singaporeans!

Playa Hata!

Oh look a little tidbit I hooked off Cached's - my favourite hangout for news. In a thread regarding Carnage's being sponsored by SiliconHorizon.com someone (who you HOPE) mentioned us, and also those unemployed goons from across the street - there one of them's peeking outta the sewer grate...

CARNAGE would do good if he proved himself, his region, AND gave new life into the region's Quake scene. In neighbouring Malaysia, the hardcore Quakers have more or less given up due to the continuous onslaught of petty civilians taking a liking of Counterstrike, no doubt induced by the herd mentality and a very serious case of arms deprivation.

All tourneys revolve around CS, are badly organized and end up in little physical episodes - especially when it involves self-proclaimed "best" clan around, NBTD (Nothing But Total Dipshit). The very few Q3A tourneys that are actually held showed much higher levels of skill, maturity and intensity, but street urchins being that, the majority still gravitate towards mediocrity and crap.

Quake rules, and Quake proves it in itself. Why then do people have to revert to a socially handicapped and intellectually uninvolving little software equivalent of festering turd like CS?
Read the other comments.

125Hz mod

I was hoping someone would actually take the trouble to update this (nag) but it seems the only inactive gamer around here has to do all the dirty work.

Anyway, for those of you who are constantly amazed by those trick jumps you see the "pros" and semi-wannabe-pro-ams pull, like that tourney2 Teleporter Trick, you can stop trying to catch those flies with your trap now.

This "It's About Time" 125 Hz mod, created by Strider with help from iD Software, allows the server to think you are moving at 125fps regardless of what you have.

Why is that important? Simply because that com_maxfps nonsense was peppered with a little more bull than we thought. The trick to all those tricks was to make the server think your movement and refresh rate was high - this is actually linked to cl_maxpackets instead. How this mod works is by shoving some pseudorates into the server's face, and voila, even at 10 fps you'll be pulling those crazy jumps.

Simply, this means my crappy old P3-500 with the TNT is gonna start 0wning again - if I can get it started!

Don't you want to 0wn some too?

PlayBoy interviews Kornelia

Well we don't see Hustler interviewing their NBTD namesake but PlayBoy sure has taken up an interest in the whole Quake scene.

Latest feature in line is PlayBoy's exclusive interview with Quake's female Star Player, Kornelia. They even compare her to Thresh, and of course do it all (the interview) from a different perspective:

"I wish that the female characters would measure up to the male versions in coolness. If a male character has full body armor and clothing, I think the female character deserves it, too. What woman would go into battle wearing panties, a bra and nothing else?"
Great read for a rainy day, and you get to see some great banners too; but hey, I'm fine with the chick characters and their underwear at the moment, aren't you?

Olympic Games In Korea

Well recently you can read about news where so many countries are having Quake 3 tournaments for choosing the players to represent their countries respectively. I wonder if Malaysia would ever reach there?

CS Tournament

If you all havn't heard about it yet, Warzone is having a Counter Strike tournament starting from 30th September. Although I am not very sure about the rules but from what I heard from Quest is that there will be a knockout first until 20 remaining teams and the remaining teams will battle in a league format. The first prize is a whopping RM2000 followed by RM900. The teams will consist of 5 per team with a substitute. Each team will have to pay a registration fee of RM50. Also heard that teams like NBTD, PLAM, BSM are sending a few teams to the tourney. Fire in my hole!
