Wat's up with Kopitiam?

After receiving news of of the rather shocking announcement that Kopitiam has quit being the leader of Clan Eclipse, I caught the mofo on IRC and forced him to do an interview with me for SoH. We talked about mainly what's happening over at Eclipse that led to his resignation, and also talked about computer problems. Without further adue, here's the lowdown on what's up with Kopitiam.

The moment you all have been waiting for...

... thx to WhoisRad's digital camera, you finally get to see pictures of the Malaysian contingent in action at Atomic Arena in Singapore! Snagged the pics last night from the PCs at Warzone [twice already I have forgot to get the pics even when I was hanging out at the place], and I got a bit over 20 post-worthy pics. I've got a short movie-clip too but thx to the crappy floppies I have, they're all skrewed up now. I'll try to post it up ASAP, but no guarantees ok.
No captions for the pics either... I'm just too lazy to churn some up. If you've got some witty ones though, feel free to send them in. And please, no 'seong-chair' jokes.. thx!

New Warzone in SS3

Warzone [the leet 'gaming cybercafe' in DJ] is expanding, and they are attacking the SS3 area next. A new branch is due to open next week, and it will be equipped with 20 PCs, running the lethal combo of P3-750s and GeForce2 GTSs. Drooling already?
According to ma homey [heh] Hiro aka XCom, the 2nd Warzone is located near a certain 7-11 store in the area. I don't know where the hell that could be as I'm not familiar with areas other than USJ18 [that's where I live]... I'll try to get the full address soon, k's? Oh, and another homey of mine, Eugene aka XKrimson, will be the supervisor at the new branch. Heartiest congrats goes out to him, the latest Quake-playing working professional.
Hiro also mentioned that he saw the daughter of the new branch's boss [someone in cahoots with the original Warzone's main man, Mr Tan], and said that she's sweet as hell. Like wow, now I'm drooling.

BKRM vs Eclipse results

Ripping this off the Eclipse news page. Clan Backroom 'whipped' [in Kopitiam's words] Eclipse in both games played on DM7 this morning at The Warzone. First game scores were 120 to 87 BKRM, but scores for the second game are not available at the moment. Any demos, guys?

Clan Eclipse leader [or rather, former-leader as you will soon find out] Kopitiam has a longass rant on his clan's news page mainly about how his PC is fucking up on him in retaliation to his constant failed experiments, and also announcing that he, along with Zhin, Baronzemo, Slade and Loren, has quit Clan Eclipse as of today. Well, Clan Kraken were supposed to play them next weekend, so like I don't know what really is up now. Someone mind clueing me in?

Clan War, and misc stuff

[I like cramming and conserving space]

Just want to reminded you guys that there will be a clan war between Clan Backroom and Clan Eclipse tomorrow at Warzone in Damansara Jaya [you ain't worth your gaming salt if you don't know where WarZ is]. I don't know what time the matches will commence [BG journalism] but my guess is that it'll be in the morning at around 10am. So be there if you ain't square [BG humour].

In the papers today: A man is now officially a man after finally getting the sense to get the authorities to amend his birth certificate. The story started thx to a hospital clerk who miswrote male as female [clerks probably sucked big time back then] on the dude's B.C., like 31 years ago. And because of the clerical skrew-up, this poor chap quit school halfway through primary school because he couldn't stand the flack he was getting from his 'friends', and got jilted by his fiance because her family thinks that their daughter would be marrying a tranvestite. Yeah I know, it's like WTF.
Page 11 of the printed version The Star [the people's paper, indeed] or this page on their online website for the full story.

Mis-happening: Oh, and I heard that the rave event held last night somewhere along Bintang Walk didn't turn out to well. Seems that the cops busted the place at around 1.30am, and if you're a clubber, you'd know that that's way too early to happen during a party. Heh, another time then, ravers.

Generations

More reading material! Head over to PlanetQuake to read Generations, a story about the lives of the Quake 3 Arena characters we've grown to love/hate/frag, and how they intertwine. It's now in its second chapter. For those who missed chapter one, start reading here. Sarge, Biker, Minx and Cadavre are all covered in these 2 chapters.

The story will be unveiled at PlanetQuake, one chapter per week. The end of the story presents a special epilogue that takes the story beyond Quake III Arena, and into Generations Arena, a project by WireHead Studios.

Enjoy!

CPL Asia Post Coverage

Read it all here, courtesy of XSReality, written by Izn0. Very well done and interesting, and somewhat insightful. And pretty funny too. Dammit this ain't a book review! Anyway, here's a damn funny excerpt about...

There was one team which I believe was from Malaysia which had a member named Griff (yeah just like the guy from german clan Schroet Kommando, actually there was a RiX at the event also) and another member who clearly had the most unique nick of them all: "Fatty CRAB".

*snip*

No offence intended but when "Fatty CRAB" entered the stage I thought I was gonna explode that's how difficult it was to keep myself from bursting out in a laugh
And for all the CS players out there (eat your hearts out CS-fags; comfort words for Quakers!), get a load of this!

Me, Hakeem, Fatality, and Mike Wardwell sat for a while and discussed the CPL and ESports in general. When I asked Mike if he thought a game like Counter-Strike with it's huge following might be the main game of the CPL in the future he told us that the CPL will wlways(sic) focus on the game that the hardcore gamers are playing. With those reassuring words we all went back to the hotel to get a few hours of sleep before the final day of the event.

Singapore's National Service expands into the digital domain

... or well, sort of.

According to the latest update on The Epicenter, Mr Jevan Tan the big man in CPL Asia will be forming a Singaporean National Quake 3 team of sorts. The lucky bastards would be sponsored for events, get free equipment, and, get this... receive training. I dunno man, but that sounds real wack to me. But hey, at least they've got a scene kickin' enough to warrant a national team. Can't say the same for the Malaysian situation huh... a Q3 MalBatt is still but a dream.

mindless beetchin'

Being stuck at home with nothing to do on a weekend night sucks big time. It's just one of those nights where you're so bored that you just HAVE to do something out of the house, and when you finally find something that you CAN do, you think twice and figure that staying home and picking your own nose would be a better idea. Then you feel so wacked and desperately need to get out of the house, and the whole shit repeats itself over and over again until you finally go to sleep, thus wasting the beautiful night away [darkness is beautiful, yeah, you get to undress and run around your neighbourhood naked without having the cops called on you later]. Hell, I'm so bored right now that I'm even contemplating of visiting Merseine at his new workplace, a cybercafe called Sampoerna [you're not the only who think that the name is wack] somewhere in the Sunway business district. It's like wtf... I'll just go back to my pondering a bit more.

This shit better not turn vapor: Jet Li is set to star in future Matrix sequels. Looks to me like it's pretty much confirmed but I'm still crossing my fingers that the deal goes through.
I finally saw that Quentin Tarantino flick, Jackie Brown, yesterday. All I can say is... IT IS RAWX YOU SHOULD GO SEE IT THX BYE!

p/s: uh... I'll probably go take dinner by myself at the neighbourhood mamak right after this.
pp/s: to prevent future mindless beetchin' updates like this, call me if you're interested in hanging out with a funky 18 year old male with funky glasses and a funky hairdo. Attractive females prefered, but not limited to.

Backroom vs Eclipse, and Silver Surfer news

According to Whirizm in a recent comment on SoH, Clan Backroom will be taking on the Eclipsians in a clan match that is to be held this June 25 at Silver Surfer. The latest news update on Clan Eclipse's website also mentioned about the matchup. GL to all players involved.

The Voodoo2-equipped PCs of Silver Surfer have been given the nvidia stimpack treatment. They've been upgraded with GeForce DDRs, so like head down to Silver Surfer for a fraggin' good time. thx to the Asylum for the news.

Stuff from the Atomic Arena

Finally, the demos and the stats for the matches that were played at Atomic Arena are available for download. The full collection of demos is here thanks to Epicenter, and the official Atomic Arena website has the stats of all the matches that were played, including the TeamDM ones where the Asians went up against 'the world'.

side note: Although Cache had loads of demos available for download from his page WHILE the tournament was running, I couldn't help but notice the demos for the matches I played in were nowhere in sight [and I didn't appear in no photographs that were taken too... not that I care much anyway :p ]. Sibei suay man... knn.

beetchin'

I don't get hangovers after a drinking session. That's probably because I puke the shit out of myself before I can ever consume enough alchohol to break that threshold where anything beyond that would give me a hangover later in the morning. Anyway, puke I did, last night at Bali... and if you were there, yes, I was that kid that fed the fishes in the pond with the half-digested remains of the burger I had earlier. And there wasn't a hangover, as you can see, I'm pretty much cheerful this afternoon.

Atomic Arena came and went, and now I'm pretty much lost. Thanks to Atomic Arena, I've been playing 1on1s full-time, and right now with no purpose at all to play, I really don't know what else to do. I'm pretty sure that I ain't the only one to feel this way. So how about we just get up from our slumber [what you saw in Singapore ain't the last you'll see of us Malaysians, nosiree], play some more, and have some clan matches to jumpstart the local scene once again? Yeh, how 'bout that?

That new single by The Deftones really rock. Go check out Changes (In The House of Flies. And you gotta hand it to that white kid, Eminem's got skillz.

Silver Surfer == l33tness

Silver Surfer, generally regarded as homeground to Asylum is proud to present another 20 GeForce DDRs. This means we now have 32 (THIRTY TWO) PII/PIIIs equipped with GeForce DDRs and 20 PIIIs with GeForce SDRs.

What an amazing gaming room! However, due to the unchecked expansion the network doesn't feel as fast as it used to be. They tried sub-netting but some incompatibility problems crept up so we'll see what happens next.

For the moment, SS is really the place to get in a good game or two (if excessive noise levels don't bother you too much), although most of the Quake crowd still prefer Warzone. Let's show some Q3A muscle in Subang, people! ;P

John Romero mumbles

The Romero had some things to say about Daikatana, the new Doom and Wolf3D, and who the best fragger was in Doom among the orignal developers. Check it out at Bondelan!

Since we're on the topic, if you haven't played Daikatana yet (where's the grand review, Fly?) read some comments by "leading" establishments, courtesy of the Shugashack.

Return of the Thresh?

Not really, not yet. But check this rip-off from Cached's regarding an interview translated from Taiwanese, done in February this year:

Q: You have participated in Quake and Quake 2 tournaments, and won world championships on both of them. Are you going to future quake 3 tournaments and win championship again?

Thresh: I hope I will be able to go, but right now the company develops fast, I don't have too much time practicing. Later on if I have more spare time, I'll definitely go. At a matter of fact, I help training Makaveli who got 2nd place at XSI, I try to teach him all my techniques, and I even defeated him. He won 2nd place in that tournament. you can ask him. Although I don't practice myself, training people itself is practice. I help him as a friend.

In response, Makaveli posted on the accompanying thread:

Name:[9]Makaveli

Comment: Dennis has done quite a lot in terms of helping me develop into a good 1 v 1 player. Granted I have done a lot of things on my own, however, he has kind of put the path in front of me if you know what i mean. Back before my first lan appearance at the PGL finals, i was losing to pretty much all the other finalists. Dennis took it upon himself to help me out and basically just put ideas in my head about better ways to go about some of the things i liked to do. I then preceded to get 3rd place, beating players i had never beat before. He's helped me develop a strong mental attitude when going to events, as well as a good mental attitude toward strategy. Yes he kicked my ass pretty bad in Quake 2 =P I have yet to play him in an actual 1 v 1 in quake 3, but back in the test we played some FFA and team games and such. Quite simply, he's amazing of course. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind, that if Dennis were to come back in top form, he would dominate the scene. I sincerely hopes he starts to play again as i am curious as hell to watch. Not to mention it would be nice to have him in game shape to help practice me up for events =) But if you want to just hear the bottom line it's this : I wouldn't be as good as a player as i am right now, if it weren't for his help. Period.
Makaveli also replied to a question:

Name: Me

Comment: Very nice of you to post Makaveli and clear some things up,thank you. One last question I have been wondering ever since I heard this rumor. Is it true Dennis beat you in a 1vs1 on Q2DM1 with just grenades? Doesn't sound feasible to me,I dont mean to offend you if it is just a rumor.

Name: [9]Makaveli

Comment: haha I'm afraid that's also true =) If i recall, he was beating immy as well. He's also beat me on match1 with just GL, but i got his ass on q2dm3 when he tried it =P I think i only beat him by like 4 or 5 though. hehe
To wrap things up, also found on the thread is a little ditty:

Played to the theme of: Mark Morrison -- Return of the Mack

Oooh, come on.. ohh yeah.

Well, I tried to tell you so (Yes, I did),
Though I'd played with clan Deathrow,
Gamers.com had to grow,
So I had to leave the show.
'Cause I knew it with Quake 3
That the game was not for me
Even with my fast T3
Retiring could set me free

I lied to you
All that time that that you were practicing
I lied to you
Yes I did, yes I diid
I lied to you
I was boning up my crazy skillz
I lied to you
With games from id, games from id id id

Return of the Thresh,
Frag on
Return of the Thresh
mad rail skillz
Return of the Thresh
Oh, my god!
He's coming back all fresh
"Here I am"

New inmates at the Asylum

SCS, AD, and Scud has checked into The Asylum as probationary inmates, according to one of the more recent news updates. Welcome aboard fellow earthlings, the id-bandwagon really needs a boost.

off the record : Someone said that SCS is really someone to be feared of... I haven't heard of him, let alone seen him, so I can't confirm this piece of [possible] new talent.

TMQuake Q3A Tournament : More information

The TMQuake Q3A Tournament has been postponed... or so, says the Kraken's Lair. I earlier reported that it was supposed to be a open and public affair [was supposed to be held this past weekend], but actually, participants had to be studying in Taylor's College to join. But that has been changed already though, so anyone can now join this tournament. Looks like this could be the biggest event ever to hit Malaysia. Lets make it happen, peepel ... oh, and stay tuned for more details.

p/s: CounterStrike 6.5b is out and TMQuake has it mirrored on FTP over here. Have fun, I'm sure the BKRM and the Warzone regulars did when they camped it out in Singapore.

back and beetchin'

Heh, wassup all. I'm back home from Atomic Arena and I'm dead tired. If you haven't been reading Nael's countless updates the last few days on soh [thx a lot beetch], then you wouldn't have known that Blue is the big man in the scene now after beating Fatality in the tournament. But a lot of shit were happening in Singapore and perhaps I'll post a write-up as soon as I FEEL LIKE IT... thx.

Anyway, here is something that would and _should_ interest the local readers:
My roommate in Singapore, Andrew aka PlatinumX aka The-Warzone-No-Lifer, scored a Razer Boomslang 1000 from Xenon in a box that had all the signatures of all the foreign pros who were there [ie: Sujoy, Doomer, Fatality, Blue, Hakeem, Dy-Syng, and Xenon of course]. Plat was earlier knocked out of the tournament when he lost to both Whirizm and Anthracite [yes, he only got to play against Malaysians he practices with every weekend at Warzone], and he was hanging around the tournament area after the prize-giving ceremony when Xenon walked by and offered him part of the loot the clan9 maestro won for getting third-place. At around the same time, I was hanging out at Orchard Road [which is a 15 minute drive away from the tourney venue at the least] with the Warzone regulars and the guys from Clan Backroom. And the only reason why Plat was at the tournament venue and not with us was that he slept in by himself at the hotel, wanting to meet up with the crew only later. But as I have already mentioned, we had ditched him and went babewatching at Orchard Road instead [we weren't in the mood to stay back for the final matches] leaving the lucky mofo stranded at World Trade Center alone, but a proud new owner of a kickass mice. GG lady luck.

Oh, and I bought the Clan Xeno tee-shirt off Dy-Syng's back for S$15 and everyone's really screwing me up for buying 'used wares'. Well, we all know what the green-eyed monster can do.

The quiet Malaysian-hopeful amongst the foreign big guns - check out this rather dramatic pic of Thomas aka GuizX [dressed in black and standing], who lasted till the last day of the tournament but got knocked out by Neo Karisma [10th seeded Korean]. Oh, and that pasty-skinned kid whose back is towards the camera is Whirizm from Clan Backroom, who lasted pretty long into the tournament too but couldn't get past Doomer.

I'll rant more later... stay tuned.

CPL Asia: Atomic Arena 1 Day 3 wrap-up

So Blue has emerged champion. Watch
Blue Vs Fatality First Match - Blue POV
Blue Vs Fatality First Match - Fatality POV
Blue Vs Fatality Second Match - Blue POV
Blue Vs Fatality Second Match - Fatality POV

Whoever said Blue sucked at DM13? He must have trained it up after the PowerK beating duing Razer/CPL. And the trend for Fat is... the only games he's lost so far were all on DM13. First to C3, then to s21.0 and Blue on the same day. He must've slacked a little since being regarded as "the new Thresh". Okay okay sorry I HAD to get that in eheh.

The final standings for Atomic Arena 1:
1st - [9]Blue
2nd - cK-Fatality
3rd - [9]Xenon
4th - s21.0
5th - [9]Doomer
6th - [9]Sujoy
7th - [HoK]Promise
8th - [eD]Carnage

In related events, Asia vs Clan 9 (Europe): Asia represented by [eD]Carnage, [BL] Shearer, [HoK]Promise and s21.0. Asia loses by >40 frags due to lack of communication.
