The college started in 1962 with civil Engineering as one of the first branches with an intake of 40 students. With the establishment and continuous development of various laboratories and improvement in the qualification of senior staff under quality improvement programme, the department is now a full fledged one. It is now in a position to start any post graduate course with addition of one or two extra staff and new equipment. It started U.G. and P.G. courses in Environmental Engineering in 1988 and now a separate department runs these courses. |
| The department also takes up consultancy work pertaining to the civil engineering works through the college consultancy cell. Testing of materials used for buildings and roads sent by the Govt. and private concerns is also undertaken by the department. Soil investigation is also undertaken under the consultancy work. The civil department has its own library of 2,307 volumes pertaining to Civil and Environmental subjects. The department has a separate computer center with Local Area Network LAN system. The center is provided with 20 personal computers. |
| Nirmithi Kendra, an Institution to impart training to rural people in construction activities was started in 1988. Staff and students of the department actively participate in the activities of Nirmithi Kendra particularly in the field of construction of low cost houses. Civil Engineering students have an association that conducts Co-Curricular activities and Extra-Curricular activities. Examination results are excellent and every year at least two to three students secure ranks. |  |
