Environmental Engineering was separated from it's mother branch (civil) in the year 1990. It offers Bachelors Degree, M.Tech. Degree and M.Sc. Engineering Degree by research. The Department is also recognized as a research centre by the University of Mysore for the award of Ph.D. degree. The intake capacity of the department is 30 students per year for U.G. students. 15 students per year for P.G. students and maximum of 4 candidates can register for the M.Sc. Engg. by research & Ph.D programme, Up to1996-97 the department has produced more than 200 Under Graduatess and about 150 Post Graduates.

          The Department offers various specialized courses in major fields like water and wastewater Technology, Atmospheric Engineering, Solid wastes, Rural & Urban Sanitation & Hygiene along with Management courses like Environmental System Optimization & Environmental Impact Assessment. Departmental laboratories are well equipped with sophisticated equipments like Atomic Absorption, Spectro Photometer, Gas Cromotograph, Iron Analyzer Etc. Mobile laboratotory facility is available in the department and being utilised by P.G. as well as U.G. students for outdoor sampling and analysis.
