Prairie Treasures Farm is a world-class Morgan horse breeding farm located in the heart of the Saskatchewan (Canada) prairie, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) southeast of the capital city, Regina. Founded in 1902, Prairie Treasures Farm had strictly been a grain operation for the past 25+ years. Upon moving here in 1994, we started the intensive job of setting up for livestock. A pasture was seeded where grain used to grow. A fence was added the following year. This seems to be an ongoing task, as our herds of cattle and horses continuously increase.
We bought our first Morgan horse in 1995, a mare named Bandessa’s Splash (Highover Bandwagon x Mooncrest Contessa). We were looking for a breed with beauty, brains and personality, and we found that the Morgan filled those criteria admirably. Since then, our herd has grown to 11 purebred and 2 part Morgan horses. This includes our stallion Day Dreamer’s Blaze (Shan-Don’s Pride x Pkay Southren Jen), who continues to show us what a true Morgan should be. His outstanding personality and people-pleasing attitude have made him a favorite of many of our neighbors and friends, who can’t quite believe that he is, indeed, a stallion. These traits, along with his wonderful athleticism, are being passed on to his progeny, all of whom live up to the same lofty standards. They combine the traits of many great Morgans who are a part of their pedigrees. The blood of stallions like Quietude, Upwey Ben Don, Waseeka’s Nocturne, Chasley Superman, Vigilmarch, Troutbrook Playboy, Mentor, Red Correll, Foxglove Tromp Loeil, Shaker’s Alimon, and many others, flows through their veins. They are also a combination of great mares, like Norma, Ingrid, Paragraph, and Manphyllis, to name a few.
Our goal at Prairie Treasures Farm is to raise horses that are beautiful, showy, people-loving, and easy to handle. We are raising real family horses that can be handled by anyone, including our own children. Our horses can do anything, be it showing English or Western, trail riding, driving, 4H, reining, cutting, endurance or just being somebody’s backyard pet.
