Q: How does the message board work?
A: The message board is spread between six separate scripts for various
tasks. To post a message, simply select a forum and click the "post"
button. For a reply, select a forum, then a topic, and click the "reply"
button for a general reply (no quote) or the "reply" link on an individual
message for a reply with that quote.
Q: How do I edit my message?
A: Find your message and click the "edit" link.
Q: How can I update my profile?
A: Click the "profile" link (across from the "Scarecrow" logo). Log in to
your account, and edit the information as necessary.
Q: Do I have to keep typing my login?
A: Yes and no. If you use the "login" link across from the Scarecrow
logo, a cookie will be saved on your computer. It will fill in username
and password boxes for the duration of the browser session automatically.
Q: Do I need an account? How do I register?
A: Yes. Click on the "register" link across from the Scarecrow logo to
register your personal account. You will be required to supply an unique
username, password and email address; optionally, you may supply such
information as your occupation, homepage, etc. This information will
be publically available, so give it at your own risk. Your email address
will be publically available as well. Please read the
Terms of Service and our Privacy Statement
before you register.
Q: How do I view somebody's profile?
A: Find a message that they have posted and click on the "View Profile" link
to see the profile for that individual.
Q: What are the user classes? How I change my class?
A: Applicable user classes thus far are "Junior Member", "Member",
"Senior Member", "Moderator" and "Administrator." The default class is
"Junior Member". If you post 30 posts, your account will automatically
be upgraded to "Member". "Senior Member" status will be attained at the
staff's discretion, when the user demonstrates a knowledge or a willingness
to participate in discussions. The only classes that allow any new commands
or options are also at the staff discretion. "Moderator" status allows the
user to delete or modify posts that do not belong to that user; the
"Administrator" class has options available to all classes, and also
access to a user editor where class (and other) changes may be made. A
non-Administrator user may not modify his/her own class.
Q: What is Scarecrow code? How does it work?
A: Scarecrow code allows some HTML to be placed in your message. For
full information on Scarecrow code, click here.
Q: Who wrote this software?
A: The author of the Scarecrow Message Board is Jonathan Bravata. The images
were created by Bryan Burns.
Q: Can I have this message board?
No. I do not plan on releasing the code for some time, at least until I can
say with certainty that all features are are in good working order and that
any and all security risks are eliminated or minimal.
